Parkside History
While exploring in the Borehamwood Museum, the children in Year 6 got to see old school photos of Parkside.
We then graphed this information. Year 1 completed art work on Purple Mash and Year 2 drew maps. On Thursday Year 1 and 2 went to The Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue. The Rabbi had a message for the children about kindness and being good neighbours to everyone.
The Festival was a fun cricket based session and included some cricket skills and then the children took part in some Rapid Fire Cricket matches against other teams.
We looked at different shows, watched clips and had a story told by a teacher who has been on set of one of the shows!. We even got to play our own version of ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’ We seem to have a few millionaires in our class now!
On Tuesday Year 3 took a trip to our local Baptist church ‘Cowley Hill Free Church (Baptist)’. Children got to listen to some of the Baptist Church’s religious views and different features within the church. We listened to a few readings from the Bible and it gave children a chance to ask any questions they had. They showed us images and a video of a previous Baptism that had taken place. We had some snacks and received some bookmarks to bring home so we were delighted!
Children enjoyed a relaxing morning reading a book of their choice. Staff at the library were welcoming and happy to help children navigate the shelves. Each child came home with a book mark which they can personalise and get stamped for every book they read. Thank you Borehamwood Library!
The children were very respectful and a credit to Parkside.
Children got to explore different book types/genes. Reading is a lifelong skill that improves memory, builds a robust vocabulary and foundation of knowledge.
Keep up the hard work Year 5!
Well done to everyone 👏 Thank you to Hertswood Academy for hosting a great event for our children.
Thank you , Borehamwood Library for welcoming Year 6 and providing the children with a Grow into Reading bookmark each.
Year 6 also got to visit the Borehamwood museum, where they were lucky enough to view the Exhibition of school in Borehamwood The Children really enjoyed learning all about Borehamwood history. This has coincided well with their double page spreads that they have been creating in class.
