Year 4 Curriculum
Year 4 aims to provide a comprehensive and engaging education that motivates, inspires, and nurtures young minds. This curriculum focuses on developing key skills and knowledge across various subjects to ensure a well-rounded education for our students that prepares our children for their future.
A key objective in Maths at Year 4 is to develop number fluency and problem-solving skills. Children will explore various mathematical concepts through practical activities and real-life scenarios. They will learn and apply mathematical operations, measurements, and shape properties to solve problems, enhancing their logical thinking and analytical skills.
Creative writing takes the forefront of the English curriculum in Year 4. Students are encouraged to explore their imagination and express their ideas through various forms of writing. They will develop their vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation skills, enabling them to communicate effectively in written form. Reading will also play a vital role, with opportunities to explore a range of fiction and non-fiction texts to further enhance their comprehension and critical thinking abilities.
Physical and mental activity is promoted in the Year 4 curriculum to ensure students have a well-balanced development. They will participate in a range of sports and activities that encourage teamwork, coordination, and physical fitness. These activities also promote a healthy lifestyle and develop their resilience and determination.
Children will gain knowledge about rivers, their features, and their importance. They will also explore concepts of law and democracy, understanding the structure and purpose of legal systems and the influence of power within society. These topics foster an awareness and appreciation of the world around them while developing their critical thinking and research skills.
Year 4 encourages students to become active members of their community. They will learn about the local area, its history, and culture, and develop an appreciation for the wider community and its diverse perspectives. Opportunities will be provided to establish links with the local community, fostering a sense of responsibility and promoting social awareness.
