Maths Challenge 2024

May 10, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

On Tuesday 7th May 2024, Daisy S, Zakaria, Phillip and Amelia took part in 2024 HFL EDUCATION YEAR 4 MATHEMATICS CHALLENGE, this was the first year in which Year 4 children could take part in and we are very proud of the 4 children who represented Parkside.

The competition is designed to be fun and it definitely challenged our team in many ways. Not least in the mathematical focus, but also in working ‘well’ as a team and agreeing answers within the time limit set. Collaborative working in mathematics (and in life) is a crucial skill. The competition challenges how well teams can work together.

Alongside practising strategies to solve mathematical questions and problems, it is also helpful to consider how to be a great team.

A massive thank you to Miss Moon for supporting the children during the live zoom event.

Butterfly Squad

May 10, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

I have attached a letter for all our families with children in Year 1-6 regarding the Butterfly Squad where we have been chosen as one of the 100 schools in the country to take part in this latest Mental Health program.

Butterfly Squad is for all children in years 1-6 and will lay a strong cognitive foundation for the rest of their lives.  Children are being given the gift of being in charge of their own emotions, choices, actions, reactions and feelings, creating powerful ninjas of their own minds and having the knowledge and power to be able to call on these tools and use them to make their own changes for life.

This Mental Health programme has been written under Ofsted’s 8 principles criteria for Mental Health, which has been taught in schools for the last 13 years and across the whole windscreen of need with outstanding impact.

Below is the letter, where you will have to sign up for free.

Mental Health and wellbeing is so important to all of us and I am very committed to ensuring our children’s happiness is at the core of everything we try to achieve here at Parkside.

5 Cedar Does Samba!

May 3, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

During music, 5 Cedar were transported to the carnivals of Brazil!

We have been focusing on the rhythms of Samba music and practising each section of the piece of music in unison. The drums needed to keep a steady beat so the rest of the sections could join in and create a carnival atmosphere! Didn’t we do well?

On Friday, we were treated to a fabulous assembly by our amazing Reception children.

Bikeability

May 3, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

The children in Early Years have been enjoying Bikeability on Thursdays where they are learning how to use balance bikes to build their confidence in riding a bicycle for the future.

Learning on a balance bike helps develop their independence and develops gross motor skills as well as spatial awareness. This helps improve balance and grows confidence.
