Celebration Assembly

February 7, 2025/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Our Friday celebration assembly started with Year 2. They shared with the school their learning about classification of animals using a sorting key.

It was excellent to see how well they were able to apply their understanding through applying this knowledge and skill in their work.  Year 1 have been looking at ways of developing their line drawing in Art lessons. They have produced some fantastic pieces of work and used this important skill in their paintings. The children in Year 6 Oak and 6 Cherry have been working hard on learning about the Suffragettes and wrote a newsletter detailing the events that surrounded the very famous event which took place in the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1908. Year 5 used their computing skills to make a design of a net to create a 3D car. Year 4 Rowan were able to make cup phones in Science this week using 2 cups and string. They demonstrated how sound travels on waves. We were treated to two excellent pieces of homework from Year 4 which showcased their understanding and learning about rivers. Year 3 have worked hard on creating non-chronological report about aliens. Thank you children for sharing such excellent learning. Keep this going.

Holocaust Memorial Assembly

January 31, 2025/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Thank you to Mrs Herbaut who led the Holocaust Memorial Assembly for KS2.

The children listened to the very moving core from Schindler’s list as they watched a moving slide show which spoke to them of the atrocities committed in the extermination camps. They learned about the why they were created and horrors that the Jewish people went through at the hands of the Nazis. The assembly demonstrated to all of about the importance of remembering the Holocaust and the suffering that so many millions went through. The children also tried to understand how to avoid this happening again in modern day. They watched a video of a survivor from the camps who recounted her experience.

Why do we need to know this? We have a voice to help change the world, video on your voice and how important it is to “speak up and speak out”. We use our voices to speak out about justice, hate and discrimination. We can challenge and change using our voices.

Year 4 Aspen have been learning about sound in their science lessons while Year 4 Rowan have produced some fantastic work about rivers. Year 5 produced some excellent facts about the Andes mountain range; the longest in the world and have created their own information sheets about them. Display Updates

January 17, 2025/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Nursery and Reception

Nursery have been looking at ‘Flips Snowman’ and have created their own snowman with what they see in the winter. Reception have been learning about ‘Polar Bear, Polar Bear, what do you hear?’ They have written down their own ideas for sounds.

Year 1 Maple

‘It is time someone wrote a story about a nice wolf!’ Year 1 have been reading 2Footprints in the snow” and have written the story out on storyboards making sure that it is in the correct order.

Year 2 Willow

We have been reading Man on the Moon and have created our own alien profiles using information they have learnt about the aliens in the book. We used different ideas to create our own personal alien.

Year 3 Elm

We have been looking at Narrative Poetry. This is poetry that tells a story but as a rhythm and rhyme. Children could choose to write about their families, pets and animals and more.

Year 4 Aspen and Rowan

We have been reading My name is not Refugee and we have written a diary updating daily on what has happened.  Children put their thoughts in about what they would say to their mothers.

Year 5 Cedar

We researched facts about the Himalayas, in particular the highest peak – Mount Everest and imagined what it would be like to climb to the top. We wrote a diary entry about our experience. We discovered, using a range of sources, information and interesting facts about the Alps. We then created our own presentational pieces using this information.

Year 6 Cherry and Oak

We have been reading ‘The Spider and the Fly’ and have created diary entries writing as the spider inviting and persuading other insects to visit them. We used vocabulary that would draw in the insects to stay.
