Monster Phonics Day

February 14, 2025/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

On Friday 14th February children and staff in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 helped to celebrate our love of Monster Phonics.

They were able to choose their favourite Monster from the Monster Phonics scheme and dress as that character for the day.

Our Monster Phonics Characters are: Cool Blue, Green Froggy, Tricky Witch, U-Hoo, Yellow, Black Cat, Silent Ghost, Brown Owl, Angry Red and Miss Oh NO!

It was amazing to see the children and staff in EYFS and KS1 today all dressed up as the characters, well done!

Celebration Assembly

February 7, 2025/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Our Friday celebration assembly started with Year 2. They shared with the school their learning about classification of animals using a sorting key.

It was excellent to see how well they were able to apply their understanding through applying this knowledge and skill in their work.  Year 1 have been looking at ways of developing their line drawing in Art lessons. They have produced some fantastic pieces of work and used this important skill in their paintings. The children in Year 6 Oak and 6 Cherry have been working hard on learning about the Suffragettes and wrote a newsletter detailing the events that surrounded the very famous event which took place in the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1908. Year 5 used their computing skills to make a design of a net to create a 3D car. Year 4 Rowan were able to make cup phones in Science this week using 2 cups and string. They demonstrated how sound travels on waves. We were treated to two excellent pieces of homework from Year 4 which showcased their understanding and learning about rivers. Year 3 have worked hard on creating non-chronological report about aliens. Thank you children for sharing such excellent learning. Keep this going.

Holocaust Memorial Assembly

January 31, 2025/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Thank you to Mrs Herbaut who led the Holocaust Memorial Assembly for KS2.

The children listened to the very moving core from Schindler’s list as they watched a moving slide show which spoke to them of the atrocities committed in the extermination camps. They learned about the why they were created and horrors that the Jewish people went through at the hands of the Nazis. The assembly demonstrated to all of about the importance of remembering the Holocaust and the suffering that so many millions went through. The children also tried to understand how to avoid this happening again in modern day. They watched a video of a survivor from the camps who recounted her experience.

Why do we need to know this? We have a voice to help change the world, video on your voice and how important it is to “speak up and speak out”. We use our voices to speak out about justice, hate and discrimination. We can challenge and change using our voices.

Celebration Assembly

January 31, 2025/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Well done to all the children who showed what they have been learning this week in assembly.

Starting off in Year 1:  They have been practising writing their own sentences where they have shown great progress with and with even more practice they will be soon be writing paragraphs. Year 2 have been learning about the local community of Borehamwood and its local amenities and population. For such a small town there is a lot going on! Year 3 have been looking at rocks in science and comparing them with the evidence of photographs. They can now confidently tell you the difference between igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Year 4 Aspen have been learning about sound in their science lessons while Year 4 Rowan have produced some fantastic work about rivers. Year 5 produced some excellent facts about the Andes mountain range; the longest in the world and have created their own information sheets about them. Year 6 created some excellent writing using diary entries as their stimulus which they based on their book Hermelin.
