Remembrance Day At Parkside

November 18, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Parkside honouring the Armed Forces and all those whose lives have been affected by war and conflict. Armistice Day has been observed every year since 1919 with a two-minute silence.

Held each year at 11am on 11 November, the silence coincides with the time in 1918 at which the First World War came to an end and is observed at war memorials and in public places throughout the UK and Commonwealth.

Children and staff at Parkside last week painted bottle poppies, when finished they created a beautiful display on our gates for everyone to see this morning. A massive thank you to Mrs Herbaut who dedicated a lot of her personal time to help create our poppies and to Mr Honour who helped to put them on the gates.

In year 4 they have written letters to Veterans. They asked questions and talked about how they feel about peace. They were lovely to read with all your amazing writing and creativity. Thank you Year 4!

Why do we see lots of poppies at Remembrance time? Poppies were one of the only flowers that grew on the battlefields of WW1 and became adopted as a symbol for veterans’ organisations – such as the Royal British Legion.

Monster Kickabout Week 2

November 18, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

An amazing start to PE last week with @sportsdirectuk and @monsterkickabout at Parkside.

Monster kickabout is back again for the 4th year in a row. It is a programme to help children in school keep active with football. Parkside has received equipment, sessions and classroom activities. We are encouraging children to find love in football and to promote our local clubs.

Last week the children were introduced to Crab Football and Four Way Frenzy Football. This week we are introducing walking football and blindfolded football to give children a sense of what it’s like for others. #paraolympics #monsterkickabout

Year 1 used different sized balls to dribble through cones using coordination of both feet. The different sized balls have given the children a challenge of ball control. In years 3, 4, 5 and 6 we looked at walking football and blind football to recognise how it would be different for others.

Keep it up Parkside, your enthusiasm in lessons is amazing!

Anti-bullying Week

November 18, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Anti-bullying week will be celebrated Monday 11th – Friday 15th November 2024, with the theme Choose Respect.

On Tuesday, children and staff were able to come to school with odd socks as this celebrates diversity, acceptance, and including everyone. It was a day for our school to join together to show that it’s okay to be different and to stand up against bullying and discrimination.

A BBC live lesson which encouraged us to empower ‘Choose Respect’ for Anti-bullying Week. Children actively helped Hacker to put on an ultimate sport day, where we learnt how to play fair, work together and show respect. Additionally to this, Year 4 have created anagrams with the work RESPECT.

On Friday we welcomed Nicola from Watford FC CSE Trust for a whole school assembly. As a valued Premier-League Primary Star Partner school they have offered a FREE Education Activation with our Premier League Primary Star coaches for the event. This assembly is to raise awareness of bullying and highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. We talked about showing respect and how we do this in our lives. Children joined in with games to help with their understanding of respecting others and to finish off with a Just Dance to the song RESPECT.

Halloween Disco

November 11, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

We celebrated the Parkside Halloween Disco on Friday. Children came to school dressed up and ready to party.

They got to have a snack and a drink which was provided for them throughout the disco and enjoyed their time dancing and playing games. We look forward to future events like this which bring the community together and our thanks must go to the PFA for organising and running this event
