Year 6 Online Learning 18.11.20

Good Morning Year 6!

Here are your online learning tasks for today.  Please remember to email your completed tasks to your class teacher so we can see all the great things you have been doing and to allow us to give you feedback.

English:

We have been doing some writing based a film called ‘Broken’. This film is linked to the game Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Watch the film here: https://vimeo.com/91642206

Brave Rock did everything he could to protect Paper from Scissors.

We would like you to write the ending to this clip. Watch the clip from 3.00 to the end and write the narrative to go with this section. Remember to create tension and to imply how character’s are feeling.

Think about:
– How does Rock feel when he sees Paper hurt and unconscious?
– Why does he carry her to the safety of her garden when he knows that she is dangerous for him to touch?
– Why do all the paper flowers bloom when Paper awakes?
– What has happened to Rock?
– How does Paper feel when she realises the sacrifice he has made?

Can you extend the ending beyond what is shown in the clip? What would happen next in your ending?

We are going to give you 2 days to complete this story ending, like we would if we were in class together. We would love for you to email your endings to us. I wonder if your story ending will be a sad one or whether you will be able to save Rock?

Spellings:

There are 6 words hidden in this picture.  Can you find them all?

We would like you to create your own hidden word picture and hide your weekly spelling words within it.  Can a member of your family then find them all?

Maths:

We are very pleased with the maths work we have been receiving.  You are all doing very well with multiplication!

Today we are going to be multiplying a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number.  Watch this clip for the lesson input: https://vimeo.com/458926418

Then answer the questions set here: 4-digit x 2-digit numbers

True or False?  The greatest number you can get by multiplying a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number is 999,999

History:

This week, we would have been starting our History topic on ‘The History of Baghdad’  Today’s lesson is going to be about ‘The rise of Islam’

Read through this PowerPoint which explains key vocab for the topic and how the religion of Islam spread around the world. Baghdad Lesson 1

Then complete the tasks set in the PowerPoint.  You will need these resources to help you:

Task 1 Map to complete

Task 2 – match explanation to title

Have a good day!
