Year 6 Home Learning 24.03.20

Good Morning Year 6,

Here are your tasks for today:

Wake up with Joe Wicks

Joe Wicks is leading a fun 30 minute exercise class every morning at 9am on his YouTube channel.  If you missed yesterday’s one you can have a go at it by clicking this link:

Yesterday we asked you to do some research about the suffragette Emily Wilding Davison.  Today we would like you to present what you found out about her.  You could create a large A3 poster, similar to the double page spread we did in our English books about the suffragettes.  Remember to think carefully about the presentation and content. Try to include:

  • Illustrations or photographs of her
  • Pop up elements
  • A bold title and subheadings
  • Lots of detailed facts about her and the things she did

If you prefer, you could create a PowerPoint presentation about her.  The choice is yours!  This is quite a big task to do so we will give you 2 days to complete this, like we would at school.  We would love to see some of the work you produce – you can always email us photos of your final pieces if you are able to.

We are continuing our work on ratio today.  We are aware that yesterday some parents found accessing the work difficult – White Rose have said that this was due to the large amount of people trying to access the site.  Hopefully you will all be able to access today’s work. We are doing Lesson 2 – Ratio and Fractions.

Watch the clip first, then download the activity and answer the questions.  Remember the answers are there for you to check your work once you have completed it.

Music from the past

We would like you to find out what your parents and grandparents favourite songs are:

  • What is the song title?
  • Which decade was it recorded in and who was the artist?
  • Why is this their favourite song? Does it hold any special memories for them?

Have a listen to each song and listen to other songs by the same artist.  Pick your favourite and create a dance routine to this song.  You can get any siblings you have to be involved too.  Once you have practised your dance routine, put on a performance to your family.

Reading and Spelling

We have set a reading task on Purple Mash for you to complete.  Read the opening chapter then answer the multiple choice questions about the text.

Continue to learn the Year 5/6 spellings, which can be found on the Year 6 page of our school website.  Pick 5 spelling words and write out a sentences  including each word.  This helps ensure you understand the meaning of the word and can use it in context.

Times Table Rock Stars

Well done to the children that are already accessing this great resource!  Mr Wanless has created passwords for each of you to access this site – these can be found in the Year 6 area of our school website.

We would like you to have a go at a ‘gig’ on the single player mode first as this gives a baseline of your times table knowledge.

You can also play in multiplayer mode.  Playing a ‘Festival’ game will let you play against the world.  Playing an ‘Arena’ game lets you play against your classmates and teachers.  We would like to try and get some of you online today at 1pm so we can play against each other – website traffic permitting.  Try and log in then if you can.

Have a great day!

Mr Wanless and Miss Wood
