Good Morning Year 6,
Today is the 23rd April – It is St. George’s Day! It is also the date people believe William Shakespeare was born on and the date that he died. We have set some fun 2do tasks on Purple Mash about St George and Shakespeare for you to have a go at.
Remember to tune in to Joe Wicks on his YouTube channel at 9am for a daily workout.
We have been doing some writing based a film called ‘Broken’. This film is linked to the game Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Watch the film here: https://vimeo.com/91642206
Brave Rock did everything he could to protect Paper from Scissors.
We would like you to write the ending to this clip. Watch the clip from 3.00 to the end and write the narrative to go with this section. Remember to create tension and to imply how character’s are feeling.
– How does Rock feel when he sees Paper hurt and unconscious?
– Why does he carry her to the safety of her garden when he knows that she is dangerous for him to touch?
– Why do all the paper flowers bloom when Paper awakes?
– What has happened to Rock?
– How does Paper feel when she realises the sacrifice he has made?
Can you extend the ending beyond what is shown in the clip? What would happen next in your ending?
We are going to give you 2 days to complete this story ending, like we would if we were in class together. We would love for you to email your endings to us. I wonder if your story ending will be a sad one or whether you will be able to save Rock?
Reading and Times Tables:
You need to read Chapter 4 of ‘Just the Beginning’ on Purple Mash. Answer the multiple choice quiz.
Don’t forget to log in to Times Table Rock Stars to practise your times tables.
Lots of you have been accessing the BBC Bitesize activities. Here is another one for you to have a go at; its all about using adjectives, antonyms and synonyms:
Watch the videos then have a go at the activities.
We are continuing with the White Rose Maths home learning lessons. This week we are going to complete the lessons in Summer Term Week 1 which are all about angles.
Complete Lesson 4 – Angles in a Triangle – Missing Angles. Watch the clip then answer the questions set in the activity section. The answers are there for you to mark your work when complete but no peeking beforehand!
This will be the last day on these tasks. Tomorrow, all classes we set a ‘whole school task’ for you to do.
Task 1: Complete this dot to dot activity below to reveal an animal. Colour it in when complete. Research how this animal has evolved and adapted to suit its environment.
Task 2: Research an animal of your choice and find out these facts about them:
What habitat does it live in?
How has it adapted to suit its habitat?
What special features does it have that make it unique?
Are they endangered? Why?
What does it eat?
Explain its life cycle
Research any interesting facts (e.g. how long does it sleep for?)
Create your own information sheet about your animal using your research. This could be done as a poster, a PowerPoint presentation or a leaflet.
Task 3: Plan and write your own poem or riddle about the animal you researched. Make sure it is presented beautifully.
Task 4: Create your own piece of brightly coloured artwork based on your animal:
Task 5: Research the scientist Charles Darwin and write a biography about him.
Task 6: Find out about Darwin’s ‘Theory of Evolution’ and write a report explaining what it is.
Task 7: Create a black and white portrait of Charles Darwin.
Don’t forget to email us your work so we can see what you have been up to. Have a good day!
