Year 6 Home Learning 07.05.20

Good Morning Year 6!

Check out the school’s social media pages to see some of the great work the teachers have been receiving.  Here are today’s tasks:

PE: Tune in to Joe Wicks at 9am on his YouTube channel for his daily workout or make up your own exercise video and get your family to join in with your moves!

English: We are going to continue with retelling the animation ‘Soar’

Watch the film here:

Use your sequencing grid you completed yesterday as a plan to help you with your writing.

Retell the story, from the girl’s point of view. We are looking for:

– Use of first person (you are writing as the girl)
– A range of punctuation
– Exciting vocabulary
– Different sentence lengths
– Writing that implies how the characters are feeling rather than just telling the reader e.g. Mara held her breath as the plane took flight.
– Correct spellings

Here is an example written by another Year 6 child to help you: Soar Example

Maths: Today we are doing Lesson 4 – Mixed addition and subtraction from White Rose Maths:

As always, watch the clip carefully then answer the questions in the activity section. Once you have completed the task you can check your answers, but no peeking beforehand!

Extra Maths Task: Lots of you sent in the correct answer to a similar puzzle we set on Monday.  This one is slightly trickier – make sure you look carefully at the pictures then use your knowledge of BODMAS to help solve it:

Reading: Read chapter 4 of ‘The Haunting of Rose Cottage’ then answer the multiple-choice questions. Both have been set as a 2Do. Then have a go at the sequencing activity below, linked to the chapter:
