Year 6 Home Learning 06.05.20

Good Morning Year 6,

PE: Start the day with some physical activity. You can tune in to Joe Wicks at 9am on his YouTube channel for his daily workout or do any physical activity of your choice.

English: We are going be doing some writing based on the film ‘Soar’.

Watch the film here:

First, we would like you to sequence the key events in the story:

Sequencing activity

Once you have all the events in the correct order, this will become a plan to help you rewrite the story.

We are going to give you 2 days to retell the story, from the girl’s point of view. We are looking for:

– For you to write in first person (as the girl)
– A range of punctuation
– Exciting vocabulary
– Different sentence lengths
– For you to imply how the characters are feeling rather than just tell the reader e.g. Mara held her breath as the plane took flight.
– Correct spellings

Here is an example written by another Year 6 child to help you: Soar Example

Maths: We are continuing with work from White Rose Maths.

Today we are on Lesson 3 – Add and subtract fractions. Watch the clip and then answer the questions in the activity section. When you have finished you can use the answers to check your work but no peeking at the answers until you are finished!

Fun Maths Challenge:

Reading: Read chapter 3 of ‘The Haunting of Rose Cottage’ then answer the multiple-choice questions. Both have been set as a 2Do. Then have a go at the SPaG activity below, linked to the chapter.

Environment Project – Air Pollution

Read through this PowerPoint about air pollution and complete the activities set on some of the pages.

Air Pollution

We would like you to create a bright, colourful poster to tell people how to reduce air pollution. Remember to send through your work to us on email when you have finished.

Have a good day.
