Year 6 Home Learning 05.05.20

Hello Year 6,

Thank you for the wonderful work we are receiving by email. We love to see what you are achieving at home and are pleased with your efforts.

PE: As usual we would like you to start the day with some physical activity. You could tune into Joe Wicks at 9am on his YouTube channel for his daily workout, or if you want to have a go at something different, you could make up your own exercise routine for your family to follow.

English: We are going to do some work based on the film ‘Soar’ which you watched yesterday.

Watch the film again here: https://vimeo.com/148198462

Throughout the film, the 2 main characters experience many different thoughts and emotions. We are able to infer the character’s feelings, thoughts and motivations without there being any dialogue (talking between characters).

Think about the answers to these questions:
How do we know the girl is devastated after watching her plane crash at the beginning?
How do we know that her overall aim is to build an aircraft that flies?
How do we know that the small boy is afraid of the girl when they meet?
How do we know that he is desperate to get back to his mission/people?
How do we know that the girl almost gave up at the end?

Complete the chart below to show each character’s feelings as different events happen. Make sure you explain HOW you know they are feeling like that, based on facial expressions, body language and actions.

Viewpoints of Characters

You can either print the sheet out, or draw your own chart out on a sheet of paper.

Maths: We are continuing with work from White Rose Maths.

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/

Today we are on Lesson 2 – Compare and order fractions. Watch the clip and then answer the questions in the activity section. When you have finished you can use the answers to check your work but no peeking at the answers until you are finished!

Extra Maths Challenge: Email us the answers to this problem:

If you want to really challenge yourself have a go at some more here: http://christianp.github.io/30secondchallenge/

Answer the questions as quickly as you can and email us your best streak of right answers and your average time. Don’t forget to tell us which level you did.

Reading: Carefully read chapter 2 of ‘The Haunting of Rose Cottage’ then answer the multiple-choice questions.  Both have been set as a 2Do. Then see if you an have a go at these open-ended questions. Remember to refer back to the text to help you answer them.

Open ended questions

Environment Project – Global Warming

Read through this PowerPoint about global warming. You can also do some of your own research to find out more information about the causes and impact of global warming.

All About Global Warming PowerPoint

We would like you to create a leaflet explaining to younger children what global warming is, the causes of it, the impact it has on the environment and what we can do to reduce global warning. If you like you can use the template below (just stick the pages back to back to make a double-sided leaflet) or you can create your own.

Remember to email us your finished work.

Have a good day.
