Year 4 – Home Learning 8/2/21

Good morning everyone,

I hope you have had a wonderful and restful weekend ready for another full week of home learning!

I would like to just remind you to continue sending through all your amazing learning you are doing; I love seeing how hard you are all working. Many of the activities that the children need to complete throughout the day can be found on Google Classroom and Purple Mash, so if you can, it would be amazing to see more children accessing this learning online.

This week all activities will be set on Google Classroom. This is in preparation for moving from the school website to Google Classroom at the beginning of Spring 2. Logins have all be sent to your email addresses. Please let us know if you have any problems and we will be happy to help.

In addition, we will be having another Zoom this week at 2pm for the children. This will be on Wednesday 10th February. We will send out a reminder text closer to the day. This is to check in with the children and then to play a fun game together. I will also be online at 10am on Tuesday and Thursday for 15-20 minutes if children would like to drop in and say ‘hi’ or need support with any of their learning.


Also, remember to keep yourself active throughout the day and take some well-deserved brain breaks!

Joe Wicks is back this lockdown with his morning workouts!

These will be happening on his YouTube channel on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning at 9am! It is a great way to start your day so have a go and get energised!

This will be our sixteenth lesson on The Jabberwocky by Lewis Carrol.

For this lesson, you will need to follow the link below to get to the video.

You will need to watch the lesson very carefully. Throughout the lesson, you will be asked to pause the lesson and complete some tasks. These tasks can be completed on Google Classroom (they will no longer be available for completion on Purple Mash). A copy of the tasks has also been attached below (these can be completed in the word document and then emailed to me). – open in Google Chrome.




Read the chapter that has been set on Purple Mash (The Knockers – Chapter 6 OR Magic in the Moonlight – Chapter 5).

Task One – complete multi-choice quiz that is set on Purple Mash.


Remember to read your own book everyday (reading helps us develop fantastic language for our own writing!)

NB: on Friday, your child will be tested on their spelling through a test set up on Purple Mash.


Task One – practice spelling your list by using the look, say, cover, write, check method (this could be done on paper at home).

Task Two – use the blank wordsearch sheet below to create your own work search using your spelling list (you could also draw up your own grid at home).

I have also made videos that you could watch. I go through the SMART carefully and give you any instructions you need to complete the lesson. This is on Google Classroom, along with this lesson.

Any questions that you come across you could write down some answers or discuss them with someone at home. Make sure that you continue to read over the Knowledge Organiser every lesson.

Task One – For this lesson I would like you to sketch the Minotaur below (you will need to make sure that you put this in a safe place because you will need it for lesson 6).

You must make the Minotaur as big as your page (A4), following the instructions below using stage by stage pictures.

For the Sarah Young Minotaur:

  • Mark where the top and bottom of your Minotaur will be on the page with a pencil.
  • Draw an outline of the shape with lightly with a pencil – notice how big the head is. Make sure you fill the WHOLE PAGE!
  • Mark the darkest shades of the Minotaur by pressing down hard with your pencil.
  • Use the pencil lightly to mark where the shading is lighter.
  • Finally, add the light areas by using your pencil very, very lightly.
