Year 4 Home Learning – 11/1/21

Good morning everyone,

I hope you have had a wonderful and restful weekend ready for another full week of home learning!

I would like to just remind you to continue sending through all your amazing learning you are doing; I love seeing how hard you are all working. Also, we will be having another Zoom this week at 1pm for the children. I will confirm the day very soon.

Homework has also been adding to our Year 4 Page. You can find it next to the post for the home learning tasks that are set daily.

Also, remember to keep yourself active throughout the day and take some well-deserved brain breaks!

See below for the tasks I would like your child to complete today:

Home Learning for Monday 11th January 2021:

Extra: practice your times-tables speed with the 2do set on Purple Mash.

English:

This will be our fifth lesson on Journey by Aaron Becker.

Task One – go through the PowerPoint attached below (all instructions are written clearly and there may be a voice recording to explain tasks in further detail). Read all slides carefully and write out answers to questions if they come up on the slides. You could discuss the slides and lesson with an adult at home.

Journey Lesson 5

Task Two – write down as many modes of transport as you can think of. There is a list attach below that you could look through AFTER you have written your own.

Modes of Transport

Task Three – draw a picture (it could be of the little girl or of yourself) using a mode of transport of your choosing. Make sure you picture is black and white. Use the colour red OR purple to make ONE aspect of your drawing pop.

Reading:

Read the chapter that has been set on Purple Mash (The Knockers – Chapter 2 OR Magic in the Moonlight – Chapter 1).

Task One – complete multi-choice quiz that is set on Purple Mash.

Remember to read your own book everyday (reading helps us develop fantastic language for our own writing!)

Spelling:

Here are the two spelling lists for this week (make sure you continue to learn the spellings of ONE list):

List One:

Ask

Once

One

Some

Come

Love

Where

There

List Two:

Medicine

Guard

Earth

Business

Separate

Position

Material

Group

NB: on Friday, your child will be tested on their spelling through a test set up on Purple Mash.

Task One – practice spelling your list by using the look, say, cover, write, check method (this could be done on paper at home).

Task Two – use the blank wordsearch sheet below to create your own work search using your spelling list (you could also draw up your own grid at home).

Wordsearch Template

Geography:

This is the fourth lesson of our Geography Unit: Rivers.

Go through the PDF that is attached below (this is the SMART that we would have gone through in class):

Geography Lesson 4

Any questions that you come across you could write down some answers or discuss them with someone at home. Make sure that you continue to read over the Knowledge Organiser every lesson as this will help you when it comes to completing the assessment at the end of the week).

Task One – read through the FIVE different rivers in Asia. Choose ONE of the rivers to do some further research of your own.

Research

Task Two – create a poster for the river that you have chosen. Use the research that is attached below, the information in the PDF and your own research to complete this. You much have the following on your poster:

  • Name of the river
  • Source of the river
  • Mouth of the river
  • Length of the river
  • Interesting facts about the river (3-5)

Remember, this is a poster and needs to stand out and be colourful and readable.

I hope you have a wonderful day and are keeping safe.
