Newsletter – Friday 9th December 2022 – Autumn 9

This week has seen the start of the Christmas Festivities. Year 1 and Year 2 produced a wonderful Christmas performance. The children spoke clearly and sung beautifully, a real credit to the Parkside Community. We also must say a massive thank you to the KS1 staff for supporting and preparing the children for all their performances and to Mr Honour, who did a superb job as usual on the lights. It was lovely to see so many parents/carers attend both performances to support and enjoy their children’s show. This week  last year’s Year 6 team: Miss Wood, Mrs Knowles, Mrs Lunniss, Miss Bowers and myself attended an afternoon tea with some of the children who left Parkside to join Hertswood. It was fantastic to hear how well they were doing and how much they loved being at school. We are very proud of the successes our children achieve even when they start their new journey at secondary school.

The word of the week is – genial – friendly; kind and cheerful

Poem of week:

Mobile Phones – Reminder from Mr Soyka: Every few months I have to remind parent and carers that we don’t allow mobile phones on site before or after school and that includes the use of ear phones to make or receive a call. The end of the school day is a very special time in a child’s daily life and for them to be able to share it with you is a lovely thing. So please remember to follow this simple but very important school rule. Thank you.

THIS WEEK’S EXAMPLES OF CHILDREN’S WORK:

Healthy Eating workshop Year 6: Session 6 Making the most of your food by Sorin in 6 Cherry

During this session we talked about how we could reuse fruits and vegetables that have not been eaten or may be going out of date.  We could use them to make delicious soups, omelettes or smoothies. We also talked about shopping smartly and really thinking about the meals we will be eating so that we do not over buy and waste food. Finally, we made a healthy fruit cheesecake  in this session using Weetabix, yoghurt, blueberries and soya milk.

Year 4 – Joy of Moving:

This week 4 Aspen and 4 Rowan learnt all about Hydration and the reasons why we need to stay hydrated and what factors may affect our hydration levels.

Year 1 and Year 2 Christmas Performance:

WD6 FOOD SUPPORT – The WD6 Food support is open on WEDNESDAY & FRIDAYS from 3:15pm – 4:30pm. Parkside families can have access from 3:15pm directly after school.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND

Cold weather:

As the weather changes, please ensure children are wrapping up warm, with jumpers and coats. Children will also need to wear suitable PE kits especially if their session is outside.

ATTENDANCE: Congratulations to 4 Rowan, who will get a roll on the Monopoly board.
