Home Learning Year 5 08.01.2021

We made it to the end of our first week of online learning!

We very proud of the work you have been producing! It is clear that you have all been working very hard!

Here are your tasks to finish this week:

Spellings:

Spellings for this week: Words with –cial and –tial endings.

official, facial, crucial, special, artificial, social, essential, partial, confidential, residential

Can you write each word backwards? (to help you remember the order of the letters)

Maths:

We would like you to have a go at playing this game to practise your mental multiplication skills.

Follow this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNTh_6rVsKo

There are 3 games on here, but we would like you to focus on Multiplication Duel. The explanation for this game starts at 8:08. You can play this game by yourself, but it is more fun with someone else!

Here is a multiplication grid if you need it to help you!

Reading:

Continue to read our book this week is called ‘The Great Marvello’ and today, we would like you to read Chapter 4 and complete the multiple choice quiz afterwards. This has been set as a 2Do on Purple Mash.

Remember to look at the underlined words as you read the text. These are words you may be unfamiliar with and if you hover over the word, it will tell you its meaning.

Make sure you are completing your reading record everyday – we will check this when we’re back in school!

English:

Using your phrases that you wrote yesterday, can you write a paragraph to describe the image from our book, Journey? There is a list of success criteria and some examples to help you on the word document.

You can complete the task on the document or print it out and send us a photo of the completed work. It is also been set as a 2Do on Purple Mash, if you wish to complete it online.

Computing:

Your new computing unit is called ‘Game Creator’. As part of this unit you will be designing and creating your own game. On Purple Mash you have been set a 2Do called Computer Game Planner – this will be complete over the whole unit – not just in the first lesson.

TASK: Think about a theme for your game. Games can have up to three levels and these levels do not have to have the same environment or the same baddies and treasure. Open the game-designing leaflet from your 2Dos. Fill section called ‘Setting the Scene’ and save your leaflet. Do not complete any of the other sections as that we will do another section next week.

Have fun creating a time capsule with lots of information about the start of 2021! Complete the sheet and put it in a safe place!
