Hedateacher’s Newsletter – Friday 27th March 2020 – Spring 11
I hope that you are all keeping safe and looking after your families during this very unprecedented time. As you are all aware the school will remain shut for the foreseeable future but I wanted to write to you all with an update regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The government has issued the following guidance: The government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend. All schools in England are closed from Monday 23 March until further notice, except for children of critical workers or vulnerable children, where they cannot be safely cared for at home.
I have contacted families whose children have been identified as critical workers or those on the vulnerable list this week. The school will reopen for these children ONLY on Wednesday 3rd April at the normal time. Children will be taught by small groups of staff on a weekly rota to minimise the risk of infection. Whilst we will continue to provide a full range of services they will be under constant review. The most important thing we must consider is the well being of not only the children but the staff. If for any reason we can help you during this very difficult time please make contact directly with your child’s class teacher of the school office and myself using the emails that were sent out prior to the school closing. Please continue to follow the advice of the government very strictly and to remain safe.
The word of the week is – CURGLAFF – when you plunge into that cold ocean water and want to scream? That shock is curglaff! It’s a Scottish term from the 1800s.
CHILDREN’S WORK – It has been wonderful to see so many of you sending in your children’s work to their class teachers. Please continue to support your child’s learning from home everyday. Please email your child’s classteacher if you are having any difficulties. Work will continue to be set and marked on a regular basis by teachers. Mr Wanless is constantly updating the school’s Twitter account with his latest tweets so please follow the school on @headparkside for further information.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS – Whilst we wait on further direction from the government about this issue we have established a link with a company to issue vouchers to families in receipt of Benefit Based Free School Meals not Universal Free School Meals. We will be able to give you further details next week. In the meantime if your child does receive a Free School Meal they can collect one every day until vouchers are issued from school next week. Please can you email the school office at – admin@parkside.herts.sch.uk to let them know if you wish to collect a packed lunch until the issue regarding issuing vouchers has been resolved.
