Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 8th November 2019 – Autumn 9

It has been an incredibly busy week here at Parkside as we returned after the half term holiday. The Firework Extravaganza was an incredible success and you came in great number to support the event. We hope that you liked the show, the feedback has been very positive. We want to keep it a regular event on the calendar for years to come. The Year 5 and 6 children who will represent the school at this year’s Children in Need treated us to a powerful and emotional rehearsal on Wednesday evening. They were accompanied by choirs from three other local schools and children from a charity. Next week’s performance will be something very special. They will be on air about 8 o’clock. Will Grill the wonderful author of Shackleton’s Journey spent the morning in Year 6 on Monday deepening their appreciation of his work and their understanding of the man’s true heroism and on Friday they shared with the school community their stories from this year’s school journey to Marchants Hill PGL. It has been a very full week!

The word of the week is – MUMPISMUS –  an incorrect view on something that a person refuses to let go of.

STAYING HEALTHY – Our attendance this week was an improvement from last week (see below) but there have been a number of children who have been off school because of illness. Please make sure that your child gets enough rest, comes to school in a jumper / cardigan, wears tights or long socks, a warm coat and scarf and hat when necessary. It is so important that they come to school every day. For every day lost their education suffers. Please do all you can to make sure your child stays healthy.

FIREWORK EXTRAVAGANZA – What a show! 14 minutes of pure joy and sheer delight. The look on the children’ faces was amazing and made everything all worthwhile. Thank you to everyone who came and bought a ticket, we couldn’t have done it without you. Our next Friends event is the ever popular disco with Marky Mark on Thursday 21st November. Tickets cost £3 which includes a drink and popcorn. Tickets can be bought on line or via the school office.

CHILDREN IN NEED – The rehearsal on Wednesday evening was nothing short of sensational. Please tune in on Friday 15th November to see a great performance and rendition of a well known pop classic.
