Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 7th September 2018

Welcome back to a new school year and I hope that you all had a wonderful summer break. The children and staff have returned to school full of enthusiasm and have begun to settle in to their new classes. There is a great deal of excitement and energy around the building which has helped everyone to have a good start to the term.
There are a number of opportunities we would like to offer the children through the year, and events for parents and families to be more involved with here at Parkside Community School. One small way you could help the community is to join the newly reformed Friends of Parkside. We will be asking for class representatives to come forward over the next few weeks so that we can begin to really establish the Friends as an important part of our school. We will also be holding workshops through the year to help you with your child’s learning. Your child’s class teacher will lead them and will take you through a different area of the curriculum; as always tea and coffee will be provided. We are looking to establish new after school clubs for the children to develop their enjoyment of learning in a different way. Watch this space for further details!

It is vitally important for our school that we come together as a community and to return the school to a grading of “GOOD”. There is a lot of work to do but with your full support we can achieve great things.

I spoke to the children at Wednesday’s assembly about the importance of seizing every opportunity that is presented to them. Opportunities are like a game of snakes and ladders. When we climb the ladder we feel happy and full of life but when we slide down the snake it can be very difficult to pick ourselves up. BUT WE MUST KEEP ON GOING! Carpe Diem!

RESPECT EACH OTHER, BELONGING TOGETHER, ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL

Building News – Over the summer holiday the Nursery area at the front of the school underwent a complete transformation. It is now a purpose built facility that not only enhances their learning opportunities but creates an inviting aspect to the front of the school.

We also “took stock” of our new school library late last week. Two modular blocks were lifted in to the school site last week before being assembled together and finally finished last weekend. We hope to have it open by the end of the month and are currently looking at different designs and layouts. Once it is fully operational and ready for the children to use you will be invited to come in and view it.

Thanks must be given to the governors for funding these projects to take place.

Uniform and Expectations – At the beginning of the new academic year it is important that the expectations regarding uniform and attendance are addressed. Children have to come to school in the correct Parkside Uniform. If you are unsure of he expectations please click on the link below for further information.

ALL UNIFORM MUST BE CLEARLY LABELLED – Every term we are left with a large pile of lost property. Please make sure that your child’s clothing doesn’t become lost.

Haircuts – Boys must wear their hair in a neat and sensible fashion. Designs and patterns shaved in to hair are not permitted. Hair styles should be presentable. Long hair should be tied back. Extreme hairstyles must be avoided.

Footwear – All children must wear black shoes to schools. Boots are not permitted even in the winter months. Trainers may be worn for outdoor PE.

Earrings – Must be plain studs. Sleepers are not permitted.

PE Kit – Children must wear the correct PE kit; a plain white tshirt, black shorts and plimsolls for indoor activities. A dark coloured non logo tracksuit for outdoor activities.

The children look incredibly smart on their return to school and we have set an incredibly high standard already. Please help us to maintain the excellent start to the school year.

PUNCTUALITY – The doors to the classrooms open at 8:45am. Children will be set mathematical games and puzzles to complete from this time to help develop their mathematical fluency. It is vitally important for your child to be on time for school. We want to have the highest standards possible for our children and by bringing them to school on time we are giving them the right tools to take forward in to later life. Please make every effort to make sure that your child comes to school on time and is thoroughly prepared for the day.
