Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 6th September 2019 – Autumn 1
Welcome back to a new school year and I hope that you all had a lovely holiday. I want to start this newsletter by thanking you all for your kindness and generosity which was bestowed on staff at the end of last term. We were overwhelmed! The children have returned to school with a renewed vigour and have begun to settle in to their new routines quickly. The new members of staff have also settled in well and are finding their feet as they begin their journey with us at Parkside. There is always a lot to remember at the beginning of a new school year and for new routines to be established so if you are unsure of anything please speak to your child’s class teacher as your first point of contact. Staff are always on hand to speak to you about any concern no matter how small. I spoke to the children on Wednesday morning’s assembly about “Making it happen!” This year our focus is on making things happen which will improve the way progress is made and how learning is enjoyed. There are so many ways we can do this together as a school. The year ahead promises to be exciting and challenging but ultimately one that brings reward. We look forward to continuing to working together with you for the good of the school and the whole community.
The word of the week is – FLENCH – When the weather looks like it’s going to improve but it never does, then it’s flenched.
UNIFORM – The children look very smart in their uniform and are proud to members of our great school community. It is important that we have high expectations for the children and uniform is one very important way of doing this. All items of uniform should be labelled and clearly identifiable. Please make sure that your child wears shoes to school. Trainers should not be worn except when the children do PE outdoors. Let’s keep standards high as we begin our new school year.
MEET THE TEACHER – These important meetings will take place next week and will offer you an opportunity to ask questions about the year ahead and to familiarise yourself with the expectations for your child in their respective year groups. The meetings will take place on the following dates:
Nursery and Reception / Years 1&2 – TUESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER @2:45PM in your child’s class
Years 3 – 6 – WEDNESDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER @ 2:45PM in your child’s class
Please make every effort to attend these meetings.
SECONDARY TRANSFER MEETING FOR YEAR 6 PARENTS/CARERS – WEDNESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2:30PM
MOBILE PHONES – SMILES NOT MOBILES! Please remember to finish you phone call before entering the school premises at the beginning and end of the day. As a school we want to set the right impression and uphold the highest standards. One way that we can all do this, is to meet and greet the children with a smile. Thank you for your support with this very important issue.
DINNER MONEY – Parents of children in Years 3 to 6 please remember to pay for your child’s dinner using the School Gateway system in advance each week. Dinners cost £12.50 per week Thank you.
BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB – There are places available at both clubs. Breakfast club costs £3 per session and runs between 7:45am through to 8:45am. We are now in a position to accept children from the Nursery for Breakfast Club only.
After School Club runs from 3:15 through to 6:00pm every day and cost between £6 and £8.50.
Booking and payment can be made through School Gateway on line system.
BOREHAMWOOD FC – Borehamwood Football Club are looking to recruit players for their under 7s team this season. Please contact Tracy Davidson the club secretary at the following link for further details : https://www.borehamwood-youth.co.uk/ClubContacts.aspx
NOTICE ABOUT ALL CLUBS WILL BE SENT TO ALL FAMILIES NEXT WEEK
ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY – There were 10 occasions where children were late to school this week. Last year the numbers of children who arrived late to school once registers closed was quite alarming some weeks. Thank you to those families who arrive on time every day. As a school we understand how challenging the mornings can be for families. If you are experiencing difficulty in the mornings there are a number of different ways we can support you. Please come and speak with us or make an appointment to speak to Mrs Toms our school pastoral support coordinator.
Congratulations to the children from 5 ASH who had 100% attendance this week. A great way to start the year. Well done children and please keep this up.
