Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 5th July 2019

The summer is here and the weather hasn’t let us down this week. As we approach the last two weeks of term and the business end of the year there are many things still left to tick off on the ‘To Do’ list. Annual reports are in the process of being proof read, Year 6 are in the middle of their rehearsals for their end of year productions, discos have been arranged for the children and arrangements for next year are well under way. It is vitally important that children come to school right through to the end of term. Attendance was highlighted as an issue for the school from the last Ofsted inspection and we are working incredibly hard as a school to make great improvements with this area of school life. Mrs Conway has been with the school for the best part of the academic year and has built on the already existing systems to help families with their attendance. The children derive great pleasure from the gifts they receive from the toy trolley and attendance is recorded every week in the newsletter. Whilst there has been a slight improvement in the overall attendance this year we need to be doing more! Please click on the link which will take you to the letter that was sent to parents and cares this week. We look forward to a busy end of term and celebrating the children’s achievements.

The word of the week is – GROKE – to stare intently who is eating in the hope that they will give you some. Watch a dog for a clear demonstration!

THE NURSERY RELEASE THEIR BUTTERLIES! – After weeks of waiting patiently the children in Nursery released their butterflies in to the wide blue yonder this morning. They have had a magical time on their learning journey watching them turn from caterpillars in to butterflies and were ecstatic with joy once the moment came for them to be released.

PARENTVIEW – We are always interested in hearing from parents and carers. Please click on the link below to complete a short survey where you can register your views. You will have to register before you can complete the questionnaire.

SING UP – sixty of our excited children participated in an outstanding concert at St Albans Abbey organised by the Choristers Outreach Programme and the Hertfordshire Music Service on Thursday evening. The children confidently sang a gospel medley, Paddy on the Railway, Rainforrest and Tue Tue, a traditional Ghanaian folk song. They also listen to and joined in with songs sang by by Sarratt Cof E Primary School and St Albans Abbey Choirs. All children enjoyed singing in the stunning venue and having a tour of the building led by teachers from the Abbey. Thank you to all our families who were able to join us at the Abbey.

YEAR 5 VISIT T TO THE MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND ARCHAEOLOGY – Children from Year 5 visited this impressive but quaint museum on Tuesday. They visited a series of gallery-based taught sessions that drew on the museums unique collections spanning a variety of cultures from around the world. They had a very good time and learnt a great deal. Thank you children for being fantastic ambassadors for our school.

DISCO – The last Friends of Parkside event will be a disco for all children on Thursday 18th July. Tickets can be bought at the office from Monday 8th July or on the school Gateway system on line. The children had such fun at the last one and this one promises to be just as much fun too. Tickets cost £3 which includes a drink and bag of popcorn.

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY – There were 285 children who came to school on time this week every day. This represents just over 88% of you who managed to turn up on time to lessons ready and prepared to learn. Thank you children.

Congratulations to the children from Year 5 Ash class who had the best attendance this week with 98.3%
