Headteacher’s Newsletter Friday 3rd February 2023 – Spring 5
As January gives way to February the longer days are beginning to creep in. Next Friday sees us arriving at the half way point in the school year and there is still much to be done. Our sports teams have been in action again this week and will be taking part in more events next. Our continued thanks must go to Mr Wanless for ensuring that many of our children take part in these activities and to Mr Honour and Miss Bowers who always support him. Good luck children. It was great to see so many of our Year 6 family members at Thursday morning’s assembly led by the children in Year 6. We certainly learnt a lot about the importance of the women’s suffrage movement. Thank you to Year 6, Miss Wood and Mrs Knowles. Please keep supporting the school in all that we do for the children.
The word of the week is – QUIDDLING – busying oneself with trivial tasks as a way of avoiding the important ones.
POEM OF THE WEEK –
THIS WEEK’S EXAMPLES OF THE CHILDREN’S WORK –
YEAR 6 VISIT TO SKY STUDIOS – As part of our burgeoning relationship with Sky, the children in Year 6 spent the day at their studios in Osterley in west London this week where they learnt about what goes in to making a television programme. They then went on to make their own adverts which they shared with the school at Friday morning’s award assembly. Visits of this nature act as an inspiration for the children which may spark a lifelong interest. We are glad you had such a great time.
SHARING THE CHILDREN’S WORK – I met with Bentleigh, Saffya, Danny James, Angela and Savannah on Thursday afternoon to look through their books and discuss their learning. They spoke confidently about the following and it was a pleasure to hear all about:
the Andes mountain range, sharks, bar graphs, how they put together stories and non-chronological reports and even examples of their design and technology skills. Thank you children for sharing your work with me. I was very very impressed.
CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK – LET’S CONNECT – Next week across the country schools will be raising the profile of mental health through a range of different activities. We will kick start the week with our DRESS TO EXPRESS day on Monday 6th February. So, please send your child in to school in a way they want to express themselves and we look forward to seeing their outfits. Please don’t go to any extra expense to clothe your child for the day. WD6 FOOD SUPPORT – The WD6 Food support is open on WEDNESDAY & FRIDAYS from 3:15pm – 4:30pm. Parkside families can have access from 3:15pm directly after school.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND
LEAVING SCHOOL BEFORE THE END OF THE DAY – From time to time children will need to leave school before the end of the school day. In order for us to release your child we ask that you provide documentation to the school office to verify all appointments. Thank you.
ASSEMBLIES – Please make a note of your child’s assemblies time and date and we look forward to welcoming you. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE A WORKSHOP ON GUIDED READING DIRECTLY AFTER YOUR CHILD’S ASSEMBLY IN THEIR CLASSROOM.
ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY – There were 19 children from 16 families who were late to school on 20 occasions this week. Many children who come to school late are often from the same families. Please make every effort to be on time for school, the effect it has on your child can have a lasting impact on their rates of progress.
