Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 29th November 2019 – Autumn 12

As we head into December the sound of Christmas begins to fill the air. Children in our Reception and Year 1 and 2 classes have begun their rehearsals and are busy learning their lines. Please help them to deliver a memorable performance by helping them with their lines. The cold weather returns next week so it is important children wear their jumpers and coats to school. Please make sure they come to school wrapped up and ready to learn. The front of the school has had a little face lift and a new sign over the front door is in the process of being designed. The front entrance will also have a make over over the next week or so too. We want our school to be welcoming to all who enter and to offer all of our guests a warm and calming entrance sets the standards we want at Parkside. Please continue to support the school in all that we do.

ATTENDANCE – You may recall that one of the outcomes from the last Ofsted inspection was about attendance. It was one their concerns and whilst steps have been taken to improve the overall rates of attendance it is still an issue. We are working incredibly hard to create a happy and supportive school, one where children can thrive and enjoy their learning. The simple fact of the matter is that if children don’t come to school we don’t have a school! I cannot stress the importance of sending your child in to school every day. The more a child is away from school the greater their gaps in their learning. IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT WE SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES AND WE WANT YOUR CHILD TO COME TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY. My door is always open and we will do EVERYTHING we can to help you if you are experiencing difficulties. Please support the school with this very important issue and thank you to those of you who do send your child to school every day.

The word of the week is – CURRICK – In the days before maps and compasses, locals left piles of stones — or curricks — to guide travellers on the hills

BUILDING WORK -You may have noticed that the front of the school has had a facelift! The cladding now covers the front completely and a new sign will be put up over the coming weeks welcoming all visitors. The area to the front of the school will be painted over the next week and a new flat screen will go on the wall outside my office which will updated with information about the school on a regular basis. We want our school to be welcoming and open to all and by giving the front to the school a new look it is an opportunity to show our values as a community.
