Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 29th April 2022 – Summer 2

The weather has been very deceiving this week. There have been times when it has been glorious and times when it has felt quite fresh. I suppose it serves as a reminder that we are still in Spring and haven’t quite arrived at the much longed for summer days. That said, please remember to send your child in to school with their jumper and coat for the time being. We are looking forward to launching our off the curriculum week in a couple of weeks’ time, with a whole school trip to Buckingham Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard! The trip starts a week long celebration of the Queen’s platinum jubilee. The children will spend the week learning about various aspects of her reign and teachers have prepared a series of activities linked to this. It promises to be an exciting week. A full itinerary will be sent out in the next couple of weeks to give you more of an idea how the trip and the week will unfold.

The word of the week is – SPUDDLE – to work feebly and ineffectively, because your mind is either somewhere else, or hasn’t yet shifted in to gear.

ATTENDANCE – Ever since I have been at the school (JUNE 2018) there has not been a month where we have achieved 100% attendance. All too often we are given reasons for children’s leave of absence which, as a staff, we have to question. The impact absence has on a child’s education can never be underestimated. It is far reaching in so many ways: gaps appear in acquisition of skills and knowledge, its impact on friendship, teaches poor habits, demonstrates a lack of resilience and affects future opportunities.
IT HAS TO STOP! We are here to support you in any way we can but what is never justifiable, are reasons that stop your child from making the progress they deserve. We will issue breach warnings for those families who children are considered persistent absentees and eventually they will be fined. THE SCHOOL WILL ALSO MAKE REPRESENTATION IN COURT IF NECESSARY TO TACKLE THIS LONG STANDING ISSUE.

ATTENDANCE, PUNCTUALITY & FOOD WASTE –  There were 17 children from 15 families who came late to school last week on 22 occasions. Unfortunately it is only a small number of the same families who make up this number, so if you are struggling with your morning routine please contact the school.

A PERSON WHO IS PUNCTUAL WILL ALWAYS KNOW HOW TO RESPECT THEIR TIME AND OTHERS AS WELL.
