Individual photos, a coffee morning in support of MacMillan Cancer Charity, our first parent workshop of the year, Breakfast Club to open at 7:45am, visits from the county adviser and new maths displays showcasing the children’s learning are just some of the things that have happened at school this week. There has been much to celebrate and look forward too over the weeks ahead. The children were reminded at Monday morning’s assembly of the importance of manners. The phrase “manners maketh man” still rings true today. Manners are a reflection of ourselves and our conduct. They are another standard which we want to uphold at Parkside; to build a culture based on equality, respect and happiness.
The word of the week this week is : MANNERS – a person’s outward bearing or way of behaving towards others.
COMMUNICATION – There may be situations that arise from time to time when you may be upset about something that has happened to your child (or yourself) at school. In the first instance please speak to your child’s class teacher about the situation to have a fuller understanding about what took place. If you feel at this point things haven’t been resolved satisfactorily then please make an appointment to speak with Mr Soyka via the school office. The school works hard to make sure that it deals with situations in a timely manner and for relationships between the school and the parent / carer body to remain positive.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUB – A letter was sent to parents / carers earlier this week about the possibility of establishing an After School Club here at Parkside. We have had a positive response to date, over 40 of you have responded to the initial enquiry. Please remember to return your slip to school by MONDAY 1ST OCTOBER. Once we have received slips from as many parents/carers as possible we will inform you of the next steps regarding this important new venture.
BREAKFAST CLUB – Having spoken to many parents Breakfast Club will open from 7:45am from Monday 1st October to accommodate your request. Mrs Moon and Miss Bowers will be ready to supervise the children from this time and will not affect the day to day cost at this time.
TABLE TENNIS – There are only two more places left before the list closes this term. Don’t forget to return your slips by MONDAY 1st OCTOBER (extended deadline)
TWITTER – @headparkside is the new school handle for the school Twitter account. It will be kept up to date with news and events which take place at Parkside on a regular basis. We already have 19 followers! It would be great if we had over 50 followers by the end of next week! Do set up an account and follow the school.
MACMILLAN CANCER RESEARCH COFFEE MORNING – A big thank you to everyone who either donated a cake or made a contribution to the coffee morning that was held on Wednesday morning. We managed to raise just over £145 which will be donated over the next few weeks.
YEAR 4 PARENT WORKSHOP – It was good to see a group of parents at our first workshop of the year. The focus of the session explored the important strategy of re-balancing; once mastered children can apply this method in many different ways to sharpen their understanding of how to approach challenging questions. It was lovely to see parents coming together to discover how their children learn new methods and for the children to explain them to their parents. Click on the link below for further information about this important aspect of the children’s learning.
THE FRIENDS OF PARKSIDE ASSOCIATION – There will be a meeting on Thursday 4th October @3.15pm in the school canteen for those parents who expressed an interest in re establishing the Friends Association. The meeting is open to anyone who is thinking of joining the association, or is committed to the prospect of helping it get off the ground. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
LEARNING THROUGH THE WEEK – This week the display boards around the school have been changed to a Maths theme. The focus of each display reflects the current approach we are taking as a school to develop the children’s understanding using the Concrete Pictorial and Abstract, coupled with the development of mental fluency. If you would like to view the displays please ask at the school office.
