With just over three weeks to go until the end of another academic year it is all too easy to look back and see what has been achieved but our focus begins to move towards the excitement of a new year ahead. But I think we can afford to look back at last week’s Summer Fair. You came in good numbers and had a wonderful time and to raise just over £2000 was a fantastic achievement. I must send my sincere thanks to the Friends of Parkside for helping to organise the event alongside some very dedicated members of staff. The Summer Fair will become a permanent fixture on the their calendar and will be held on the third Saturday in June so put it in your diaries for next year! I spoke to the children at Monday morning’s assembly about the importance of working hard right through to the end of the academic year. It is a privilege to lead Parkside Community School and we must ensure that we work together as a community to keep standards high.
Word of the week – JARGOGLE – to confuse or jumble. Often we may experience a little jargogle when we are unable to understand or grasp something fully!
OPEN EVENING – It was lovely to see parents/carers spending time walking through the classrooms yesterday evening. Open evening like the Summer Fair will be a permanent fixture for the school over the years ahead. Its purpose is for parents and carers to have a better understanding of the standards we expect from the children and to experience and sample the quality of the classrooms. We want all parents and carers to spend more time in classes from September so that you are fully conversant with the way the children learn and how this is reflected in the teaching and learning. More details will follow in the new academic year.
PARENTVIEW – We are always interested in hearing from parents and carers. Please click on the link to complete a short survey where you can register your views. You will have to register on the site before you can complete the questionnaire. https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/login?destination=give-your-views
YEAR 3 TRIP TO THE SHREK WRITING EXPERIENCE – I had a wonderful time on Tuesday accompanying the children from Year 3 Elm on their trip to the Shrek Writing Experience. They were great ambassadors for the school although they didn’t like the walk to the train station very much! The children used their knowledge and experience as writers to create a fairy tale together and demonstrated an excellent attitude all day. Thank you children you were fantastic company.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT – What is more important – being right or being nice? Answering questions of this type helps children to understand the different layers to philosophical debates which develop key thinking skills. Spend some time with your child trying to answer the question.
PARKSIDE FLYERS – Congratulations to Erdal, Caleb, Harry, Jack, Lyssa, Emma and Lina who were this week’s Parkside Flyers. Keep soaring and reaching for the very best children. You are amazing!
