Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 27th September – Autumn 4
We head in to October on Tuesday and celebrate it with a coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Research. It was a small affair last year but we hope that you will be out in full support next week. Cakes should be sent in to school on Monday. We also celebrate Black History month throughout October. Children will have the opportunity to learn about the influence many black people have had in helping to shape the society we live in today. We held the annual general meeting of the Friends of Parkside this evening in the Nursery which was attended by a number of supportive parents and governors. There is a full schedule of events lined up through the year for every member of the community to enjoy so please keep checking your messages on a regular basis for updates. It was lovely to see everyone looking their best on Thursday when the photographer came. Please remember that shoes and not trainers should be worn at all times. We continue to address the issue we have around attendance by introducing a WALKING BUS on Monday 30 SEPTEMBER. Mrs Toms and Mr Honour will meet children, parents and carers on the junction of Stapleton Road and Stanborough Avenue at 8:25am. They will walk together in a group to school to arrive at approximately 8:40am. Further information can be found by clicking on the following link – https://parkside.herts.sch.uk/walking-bus/
Please keep supporting the school in all that we do.
The word of the week is – SLIVING – A thin slice of bread or meat, or a splinter of wood.
Lots of information is regularly sent out through the school’s twitter feed – @headparkside
MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING – Please send in your donations to school on Monday 30th September in preparation for the coffee morning on Tuesday 1st October. Tea / Coffee and slice of cake £1 and a chance to spend some time together as a community. Doors open 8:45 am – 9:20am.
SAFETY TALK FROM THE POLICE – The children learnt a very valuable lesson at Monday morning’s assembly from the local Police Community Support Officers – How to use their NETWORK HAND. Not only should they stay safe at all times but when they are in times of need they can talk to THE POLICE, THEIR DOCTOR, THEIR FAMILY THEIR FRIENDS AND THEIR TEACHERS. Thank you to Sam and Sarah our local PCSOs for speaking to the children about this very valuable message.
PARKSIDE FLYERS AND HOT CHOCOLATE FRIDAY – Congratulations to Darius, Bobby, Miriam, Alexus, Yanis, Bianca, Kiya, Hannah, Jade, Leona who shared a cup of hot chocolate this week with Mr Soyka because of the excellent attitude they showed in their learning. From guided reading to developing positive friendships the children have had a great week.
Our flyers this week were Stefan, Lorita, Harry, Abdi David, Chloe, Antoni, Odin and Esther. Keep soaring high.
ACCOUNTS FOR THE FRIENDS OF PARKSIDE 2018 -19 – We had a fantastic year last year and raised over £4,000. Please see below for further details on the amounts raised and spent.
