Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 24th March 2023 – Spring 11

After a very unusual week of weather and the passing of the spring equinox the clocks go forward this weekend. The extra hour of daylight will bring some much needed cheer. Thank you to the children in our Reception class who gave a very good account of themselves at Wednesday morning’s assembly. Opportunities to speak in public at such a young age is a very important  part of a child’s development. We were all very proud of their efforts. Year 5 and 6 took part in golf taster sessions this week and we look forward to seeing how they develop with this new sport. Year 1 enjoyed a trip to Stansted Mountfitchet Castle on Friday where they developed their learning about castles. They had a wonderful time and learnt a great deal. Congratulations to our swimmers who acquitted themselves very well at last week’s swimming gala. They won a host of medals and made us all very proud. Thank you children.  Next week is the last week of term and school closes at 1:30pm on Friday 31st March, please make a note of this.

The word of the week is – CIRCUMBENDIUS –  anything that goes round and round without ever getting to the point.

THIS WEEK’S EXAMPLES OF THE CHILDREN’S WORK

CHILDREN’S LEARNING – I spent a great deal of time this week in the company of many children and listen to them talk to me about their learning. During the two sessions I had with them they shared with me many interesting things about diary entries, stories about gargoyles, the ancient myth of Beowulf and Grendel, how to add and multiply fractions, comparison between living in the UK and St Lucia, how to build a circuit and how materials act differently when used in a range of different ways. It was enlightening as ever and one of the highlights of the week.

WD6 FOOD SUPPORT – The WD6 Food support is open on WEDNESDAY & FRIDAYS from 3:15pm – 4:30pm. Parkside families can have access from 3:15pm directly after school.

PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND

YEAR 3 CLASS ASSEMBLY WEDNESDAY 29th MARCH @9:15 am IN THE SCHOOL HALL FOLLOWED BY A READING WORKSHOP

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY – There were 19 children from 16 families who were late to school on 29 occasions this week. Many children who come to school late are often from the same families. Please make every effort to be on time for school, the effect it has on your child can have a lasting impact on their rates of progress.

It was great to share a cup of hot chocolate with Saffya, Dharun, Helena, Barney, Savannah, Delilah, David, Holly, Ugo and Deyan on Friday afternoon. They were rewarded with this nice little activity in recognition for all of the hard work they had shown their teachers through the week. Thank you children.
