Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 24th June – Summer 9
Another glorious week of warm weather has been enjoyed by everyone immensely. Our annual sports day took place today which was well supported once again. The children gave their very best which was lovely to see and everyone had a good day. Thank you to everyone who came last week’s Summer Fayre. The weather held and there was a steady trickle of people who left at the end of the day having bought a bag of popcorn, ate a burger or won on the raffle. My sincere thanks go to everyone who ran a stall, donated a prize or marshalled children on the bouncy slide, but I have to offer a special vote of thanks to Nick and Nadia parents of Hayden in Year 6. Together they organised the large majority of the day from organising the tokens (with Mrs Davis in the office) to buying the food. If you get a chance, why not show them how grateful you are by thanking them. There are three weeks left of the school year and there is a lot to be done. I am in the midst of reading your child’s annual report which will be sent by the 13th July. Please keep supporting the school in all that we do especially with uniform and attendance.
The word of the week is – OCHLOCRACY – (16th century) government by the crowd; mob rule.
POEM OF THE WEEK –
ABSENCE DURING TERM TIME SECOND WEEK – This week has been yet another disappointing week for attendance. Many of you have asked me time and again for leave during term time to which I always give the same answer; NO. I am not allowed to authorise any leave for a child during term time. Attendance has been a long standing issue at the school for many many years; the past three Ofsted inspection reports have highlighted this contentious issue. The school works incredibly hard to support every family by encouraging them to send their child to school every day but we can not seem to sustain a pattern of delivering attendance of 96% and over on a weekly basis. It is because of this reason that absence during term time has been refused. There are a large number of families who continue to struggle to send their child to school every day and we have to monitor their attendance very carefully. Mrs Conway in the Office works tirelessly to make sure every child comes to school but she and other members of staff grow incredibly frustrated with this ongoing issue. Until attendance figures improve all absence requests will not be granted. I am sure that you understand why the school has to take this line when it comes to requests for absence.
WD6 FOOD SUPPORT – The WD6 Food support is open on WEDNESDAY & FRIDAYS from 3:15pm – 4:30pm. Parkside families can have access from 3:15pm directly after school.

There were 27 children from the same families who came late to school last week on 43 occasions Unfortunately it is only a small number of families who make up this number, so if you are struggling with your morning routine please contact the school.
I WILL BE CALLING THESE FAMILIES NEXT WEEK TO DISCUSS THE REASONS WHY THEY CONTINUALLY COME LATE TO SCHOOL.
PUNCTUALITY IS NOT JUST LIMITED TO ARRIVING AT A PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME, IT IS ABOUT TAKING ACTIONS AT THE RIGHT TIME.
HOT CHOCOLATE & PARKSIDE FLYERS – Michelle, Skylar, Eshaal, Helena, Reyansh, Patrick Dylan and Faye. Well done to this week’s Parkside Flyers – your excellent attitude and progress have helped you to soar. Please continue to work hard through the rest of the year.
