Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 22nd November 2019 – Autumn 11

After the success of last week’s appearance once Children in Need (click for a review by Mr Wanless)https://parkside.herts.sch.uk/children-in-need-2019/ we started this week with renewed energy. We welcomed many guests this week; governors, advisers from the county, representatives from Google, a head teacher from a local school who we will be working with very closely over the coming months and of course the fantastic people who run Marky Mark’s disco. Next week the Friends will be selling books from the Scholastic book fayre after school on the playground not in the hall. If you want to bag an early Christmas present what better way than to buy a book. Every book we sell the school receives commission which we plough back in to class libraries, so if you can we look forward to seeing you. The weather still remains cold so please make sure that your child comes to school in a warm coat. Keep supporting the school in all that we do.

The word of the week – SHIVELIGHT – the bright shafts of sunshine that pierce a wood

BUILDING WORKS – Over the coming weeks the front of the school will undergo a facelift. We want to make the entrance to our school as welcoming as we can. The front of the school will see the white cladding placed over the front of the current blue wall and the front doors will be stripped and re varnished. There will be a new sign hung over the door welcoming people to our school and the entrance will be repainted in the school colours. By offering a warm welcome it is our vision that all who enter our school feel valued and listened to.

DISCO – Over 160 attended the two discos on Thursday night and they were a tremendous success. Our thanks must go to the Friends of Parkside for organising another great event for the children. Without their support we couldn’t hold events of this nature. If you are interested in joining them please speak to one of them at next week’s book fayre.

BE INTERNET LEGENDS AND YEAR 4 VISIT THE SWAMANIRAYAN TEMPLE – Representatives from Google came to school on Wednesday to teach the children from KS2 about the importance of staying safe on line. In an ever-changing world it is  important for children to learn how to stay safe when they are online and what dangers to look for. Please click on the link below for further information about how you can help your child when they are on the internet.

The children from Year 4 were amazed at the magnificent Hindu temple that was built through donations and contributions from all over the world. It is the largest temple outside of India and serves the Swamanirayan community of Neasden. They learnt so many new things about this major world religion and deepened their understanding of how Hindus pray and worship their many deities. Their teachers and support staff were very proud of their behaviour and they acted as wonderful ambassadors for our school. Thank you children.
