Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 21st January 2022 – Spring 3
THERE HAVE BEEN 9 CONFIRMED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS REPORTED AT PARKSIDE COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL THIS WEEK – 5 STAFF MEMBERS AND 4 CHILDREN
It has been a very challenging and testing week at school, but that said we have come through it despite the sharp rise of reported coronavirus cases. The cold weather continues to be with us and the children are working very hard. I have had the pleasure of listening to a number of children read and awarded headteacher’s stickers to a group of children from Year 6 who shared with me some of their fantastic descriptive writing. During these very challenging time please don’t forget that the food bank is open every Wednesday and Friday after school until 4:45pm. The wonderful staff of the WD6 Food Support do a great job and are more than happy to give you as much support as possible. Please continue to support the school in all that we do for the children and their families.
LATEST CORONAVIRUS GUIDANCE – Due to the rising number of Coronavirus cases please follow the latest guidance carefully.
If your child develops symptoms, you must take them for a PCR test and they should not attend school. However if your child is not displaying symptoms they must continue to attend school every day. The Government strongly advise to take daily LFD tests for 7 days.
The word of the week is – SPARPLE – to deflect unwanted attention from one thing by making a big deal of another
POEM OF THE WEEK –
I walked the lonely village street,
Where pavements glistened beneath my feet,
Above that building tall and grey,
Began the life of another new day,
My footsteps echoed loud and clear,
Soft morning breezes aroused my ear,
Cool running water at my side,
Let dry leaves hurriedly ride.
Pass the day and come the night,
Now the darkness, gone the light,
Winds blow and stars appear,
Gone is the day, rests drawing near.

REMINDER TO ALL PARENTS/CARERS – During these cold months there is always a temptation when you drop your child to school to leave your car idling to stay warm or even defrost your car windows. Please can you defrost your cars before you drop your child to school and to turn off your engine when you pull up outside the school gates. Thank you for your support over this very important environmental issue.
PAINTING THE KEY STAGE 2 FENCES – SAVE THE DATE – Are you a dab hand with a paint brush? Can you spare an hour on SATURDAY 26th FEBRUARY between 10am and 11am to lend a hand painting the fence panels at the back of the KS2 playground? Tea, coffee and bacon rolls will be on offer so all you need to do is turn up and be willing to lend a hand. We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to help give the playground environment a lift for the children.
SMILES NOT MOBILES SECOND WEEK – I have had to speak to a number of parents and carers again this week about taking calls on their mobile phones at the end of the school day. This is a gentle reminder to remember to finish your call before entering the school grounds. As a school we believe that the end of the school day is one of the most precious and magical times for a child. They often want to share with their parent/carer what has happened in the school day but they can’t do this if you are on your phone. Thank you for your continued support over this very important matter.
ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY – There were 27 children from 21 families who came late to school last week on 30 occasions. Please make every effort to reduce this number next week it is so important.
MANY OF YOU BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL ON TIME EVERYDAY WHICH HELPS TO SET A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE. PART OF THE SCHOOL’S MISSION IS TO SUPPORT ALL OF OUR FAMILIES AS MUCH AS WE CAN BUT IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE WORKS TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF THE CHILDREN AND THE SCHOOL. IT IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY TO TEACH THE CHILDREN THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING PUNCTUAL.

FOOD WASTE – FOOD WASTE – This week there was 89 kgs of waste which equated to 89 grammes per child. THIS IS TOO MUCH. We will start to look in to ways of reducing our food waste with the catering staff in the next couple of weeks, so please look out for news about this important change.
