Headteacher’s Newsletter Friday 18th June 2021 – Summer 9

After a glorious week of excellent weather it has ended with a number of downpours! The children have worked incredibly hard despite the challenging circumstances becuase of the heat and have produced some excellent work. There are four weeks left until the end of term and the end of the academic year but there is much to be done. Families will receive their child’s annual report on July 9th. The format will be the same as last year but the comments and attainment will reflect the curriculum the children have been taught during a Covid affected year. Further details about this will follow in the next couple of weeks. We welcome Year 6 back from School Journey today after an amazing week down at Marchants Hill PGL centre. You can catch up with all of their activities by clicking on the latest news section here – https://parkside.herts.sch.uk/latest-news/ Please can you make sure that your child comes to school in the correct uniform for the rest of the term.

PLEASE NOTE DURING THE WARM WEATHER CHILDREN MUST WEAR A HAT (WITH THEIR NAME EASILY IDENTIFIED ON THE INSIDE) TO SCHOOL AND BRING A BOTTLE OF WATER. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU APPLY SUNSCREEN BEFORE THEY COME TO SCHOOL BECUASE WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO APPLY IT.  Thank you

The word of the week is – SWULLOCKING –  an old East Anglian dialect meaning sweltering, sultry and sudiferous (sweat inducing).

POEM OF THE WEEK – How Beautiful is the Rain – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“How Beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!

How it clatters along the roofs,
Like the tramp of hoofs!
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!

RECEPTION AND NURSERY PLACES (LAST TWO WEEKS) – We still have a few places available in our Nursery and Reception classes for September 2021. The school is performing very well and we have been recognised by the county and the government for the standards we set for the children. Please tell everyone you know about us!!

Despite this, children will complete against classes in their bubble across a number of activities. They will score points for their class and the winning team will be awarded trophies and medals. We look forward to the competition starting next week. Good luck children!!
