Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 17th March 2023 – Spring 10

After a very unsettled week we all enjoyed dressing up in support of Comic Relief today. The children turned out in an array of colours and really got in to the spirit of the event. There are only two weeks left of term and after grinding out the long dark winter nights there is a definite feel of spring in the air. You are all cordially invited to a meeting of the Parents and Friends Association on THURSDAY 23rd MARCH at 3:25pm. The meeting will take place in one of our Key Stage 2 classrooms and we will discuss events for the summer term. Please make every effort to attend. Without your support many of the events the children have enjoyed over the past few years simply won’t happen, so why not come along and find out what the PFA does.
Our class assemblies have been well attended recently and this week’s was no different. I hope that you have found the workshops a valuable experience and please continue to encourage your child to read. Science week culminated in a series of workshops which were very interactive and the children had fun whilst learning about a range of different scientific skills. Thank you to Mrs Samways for organising such a great day. Year 2 also had a very busy week when they paid the baths at Welwyn Garden City a visit. They learnt about the underground system of heating Roman houses and enjoyed dressing up in a chiton and tunics. We hope you had a lovely day children.

THIS WEEK’S EXAMPLE OF THE CHILDREN’S WORK

WD6 FOOD SUPPORT – The WD6 Food support is open on WEDNESDAY & FRIDAYS from 3:15pm – 4:30pm. Parkside families can have access from 3:15pm directly after school.

PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KITCHEN STAFF – I was very heartened to learn that Lindsay and Karen, our two excellent cooks, were reward by Herts Catering this week in recognition of their hard work and dedication. We are incredibly fortunate in having such wonderful staff who run our kitchen. They prepare the children’s food with care and make sure that their every need is catered for. Well done to you both.

ATTENDANCE – (this week’s attendance has been affected by industrial action)

Year R Pine 92.3%
Year 1 Maple 93.6%
Year 2 Alder 100%
Year 2 Willow 95.2%
Year 3 Birch 86.1%
Year 4 Aspen 90.3%
Year 4 Rowan 98.9%
Year 5 Cedar 93.9%
Year 6 Cherry 94.4%
Total Average: 92.9%

PUNCTUALITY – Despite the fact there were 2 days of industrial action, there were 34 occasions where 25 children turned up  late to school this week. This is very very concerning.

Most of the children who come to school after the gates have closed have poor punctuality and continue to have problems coming to school on time. If for any reason you have trouble in the morning or are experiencing difficulties please speak to either myself or Mrs Mattholie so that we can find ways of supporting you.
