Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 15th September 2022 – Autumn 2

It looks as if the good weather is still with us and the children continue to enjoy the use of the outdoor facilities. Many of you have been in school this week to attend Meet The Teacher meetings or the annual Secondary Transfer meeting and it was lovely to welcome you all. Please check your child’s class webpage to familiarise yourself with the expectations of the year ahead. Kelly Moss our former Improvement Partner and the current Area District Adviser paid us a visit on Thursday to review the provision for the children. She was very impressed by the way they learn, how they are supported and the way their achievements are celebrated. What really impressed her was the way the children felt they were represented across the school and how safe they felt. It has been a great start to the term which we will continue to build on. We will be relaunching the Friends of Parkside at the annual General Meeting on Thursday 28th September in one of old Year  2 classes, so if you are interested in supporting the school, or have any ideas about fundraising activities please come along to the meeting which will start at 3:30pm. We look forward to seeing many of you there. Please keep supporting the school in all that we do for your child.

The word of the week is – KOMOREBI – sunlight streaming through a canopy of trees (Japanese).

THE BIG QUESTION – CAN YOU DESCRIBE COLOURS?
Try discussing this question with your child to help them think about developing their thinking skills.

THIS WEEK’S EXAMPLES OF THE CHILDREN’S WORK –

VISIT BY THE MAYOR OF HERTSMERE AND THEIR CONSORT
Local councillors Christian Gray (Mayor) and Chris Myers (Consort) spent a few hours on Thursday morning with Year 6 listening to the work they have recently completed about the sensitive issue of homelessness. The children wrote a series of letters to the Mayor expressing their feelings about this problem and the emotive responses it created in them. They also shared their ideas about how they could support this vulnerable group and the ways the local council could do this, much of the content was excellently researched. They were incredibly impressed by their maturity, compassion and deep understanding of how a person’s plight can change at any time. It tied in with the whole school Literacy topic each class is studying at present. Thank you children for representing the school so well.

CHANGE TO THE START OF THE SCHOOL DAY – Week 3 – The government has issued a directive to all schools about 32.5 hours of teaching time every child in the country is entitled to. To meet this new directive we will open the school gates as normal at 8:30am BUT they will CLOSE at 8:45am from MONDAY 30th OCTOBER. Please make sure you make a note of this change. We will continue to put it in all of our newsletters from the start of the new academic year until FRIDAY 20th OCTOBER.

REMINDERSSECOND WEEK
Please read the following carefully to remind yourself  or introduce yourself to the following to help the operational running of the school run smoothly. Thank you.

SMILES NOT MOBILES – Please remember that we would like you to collect your child after school in a way that is welcoming. If you are asked not to be on your phone please don’t be offended.
UNIFORM – Kindly make sure that your child comes to school in the correct uniform. Trainers and boots  are NOT part of the school uniform so please don’t be offended if your child is sent home with a letter to remind you of this.
ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY – Poor attendance and punctuality hampers a child’s opportunities and life chances. Please remember this.

If for any reason you need to speak with Mrs Mattholie the school’s Pastoral and Parental Engagement Office please contact her through the school phone number and select option 3.
