Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 15th March 2019

The weather has certainly kept us on our toes this week. Some days we have experienced fours season in one hour!  March winds and April showers indeed.  Another week passes by and the children and staff continue to work hard. The choral recital on Wednesday afternoon was a great success. The children sang with gusto and the energy in the room was felt by everyone. Our sincere thanks must go to Nadine for preparing the children so well and to Calvin her pianist. Congratulations children. It was lovely to see so many children dressed in red for the bi-annual Comic Relief Red Nose day. We managed to raise just over £600 which is a fantastic effort. Thank you for your continued support.

The word of the week is – ABLOOM – covered in flowers. The school grounds are abloom with daffodils and other spring time flowers, lifting everyone’s spirits. Let’s enjoy their colour and brightness over the weeks ahead.

WORDS IN THE WOOD – From Thursday 21st through to Sunday 24th March some of the children’s work will be on display in Metro Bank in the Boulevard Shopping Centre. The event has been organised by Hertswood Secondary School  and will give all schools in Borehamwood the opportunity  to showcase their children’s writing skills.  They used the themes from Nick Butterworth’s book “The Whisperer” to create their own pieces of work. I have been very impressed by the standard of work that I have seen, so if you are in Borehamwood high street next weekend please make every effort to go to the bank and spend a few minutes reading the children’s work. We hope that you will be impressed.

We look forward to hearing from you.

CHORAL RECITAL – The school choir and children from Year 5  treated  parents and carers to a wonderful concert on Wednesday   afternoon. They gave excellent renditions of a number of songs that dealt with the theme of tolerance and togetherness. They were led by their inspirational choir leader Nadine.  The smiles on the children’s faces showed just how much they enjoyed the event. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the children.

PARKING SIGNS – Many of you have made positive comments about the new parking signs/bollards which went in to use this week. They have been bought to keep everyone safe during very busy times of the day. Please ensure that you drive carefully when dropping off and collecting your child.  It is everyone’s responsibility to keep all members of our school community safe.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WE WANT SMILES NOT MOBILES WHEN YOU DROP OFF AND COLLECT YOUR CHILD IN THE MORNING AND THE AFTERNOON. THANK YOU.

MOTHER’S DAY – On Friday 29th March all mothers, grandmothers, carers, aunts and female family members are cordially invited in to school to spend time with your child. Further details will be sent out early next week.

PUNCTUALITY – There were 42 occasions where children arrived late to school this week. The vast majority of you are very good at bringing your child to school on time, please continue to support the school by teaching your children by example about this crucial life skill.
