Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 15th July – Summer 11
This is the last newsletter of the year. It was lovely to see our new families on Thursday morning and to meet the children who will join our Nursery and Reception classes in September. I am sure that they will be wonderful additions to the Parkside community and we look forward to working with them. Preparations for our Year 6 leavers’ assembly are well under way and the children will perform twice next week, once for the school and again for parents and carers. The weather for the early part of next week is forecast to be incredibly hot, so by holding the assembly over two days it eases the burden on the school and makes it comfortable for everyone. We look forward to seeing our year 6 families at 9:15am on Tuesday morning. All that is left to say is to have a wonderful summer holiday and to thank you for your continued support during the course of the year. School reopens for the children on MONDAY 5th SEPTEMBER.
GOODBYE – We say goodbye to a number of staff this week and it is only fitting and appropriate that we mark their leaving in the newsletter. Many of them would have either taught your child or had a hand in their education during their time at Parkside. So, Ms Chandler, Miss Hemsworth, Mrs Bryson, Miss Castell, Miss Daglish, Mrs Taha, Mrs Salter, Mrs Quinn, Miss Dunn, Miss Burke, Miss Cattini and Mrs A Lunniss we wish you every happiness and success in future ventures and thank you for everything you have done for the children, staff and families. You wont be forgotten.
The word of the week is – SUSURRUS – (19th century): the low, soft whispering of the trees in a summer breeze.
POEM OF THE WEEK –
THIS WEEK’S EXAMPLES OF THE CHILDREN’S WORK –
Over the past year Mrs Salter and a number of hardy and dedicated group of children from Year 4 and 5 have been busy in the KS2 playground growing vegetables! On Wednesday afternoon they were invited to the Vegfest presentation ceremony at St Theresa’s and were awarded with a number of prizes including the most improved vegetable patch. Our congratulations to the children for showing such dedication and commitment to the project and thank you to Mrs Salter for leading them. We look forward to seeing next year’s bounty.

Sharmila, Soham, Antoni and Demitris receiving their Service above Self certificate from the Rotary Club of Elstree and Borehamwood. Congratulations children.
DISCO – Once again Nick and Nadia organised another great event for the children last night, the third disco of the year. The children danced the night away and feasted on popcorn and juice. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket in support of the event.
I CANNOT THANK NICK AND NADIA ENOUGH FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND TIME THEY HAVE GIVEN TO THE SCHOOL OVER THE PAST YEAR. THEY HAVE (PRACTICALLY) SINGLE HANDEDLY ORGANISED EVERY EVENT FOR THE CHILDREN. I THINK WE CAN AGREE THEY ARE ABSOUTELY AMAZING.
Next year we will looking for class representatives to join the Friends of Parkside to support the work and legacy that Nick and Nadia have created. The more people who can help the more events we can put on. I will write to you all again in early September with further information about the Friends of Parkside and how you can help to support them.
