Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 15th January 2021 – Spring 2

With the new term fully underway we have all had to make adjustments once again to our daily lives and reintroduce old routines. Despite the many challenges we face the children are coping remarkably well and the response from families regarding online/remote learning has been incredibly encouraging. Staff are working incredibly hard to make sure that work is set everyday on the school website for those of you who are able to access it on line. Work packs are also available to collect fom the school office which will cover two weeks’ worth of work for your child. Please make sure you continue to send work in to your child’s class teacher on a regular basis and to keep up to date with the many changes we all face on a daily basis. Thank you for your continued support during these very difficult times.

The word of the week is – RAMFEEZLED – (18th Century) – exhausted, befuddled or overcome

The packs consists of: Whiteboards and whiteboard markers, colouring pencils, a 30cm ruler, a glue stick, a paint palette, number line and other maths resources, an exercise book and a pen or pencil and a pair of scissors. They can be collected from Mr Soyka at the double gates to the car park on Aycliffe Road on MONDAY 18TH JANUARY BETWEEN 8:30am – 9:30am and 2:30pm – 3:30pm. Please make every effort to collect the stationery pack and we look forward to giving them to the children.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS – You will have probably have heard about the difficulties families have experienced around the provision of Free School Meals this week. Fortunately at Parkside we have been able to provide substantial amounts of food for many of our families during the latest lockdown. The governement announced earlier in the week that they would be reintroducing the Edenred vocuhers scheme for children who receive a Free School Meal from January 18th. We will be in contact with families next week to discuss further details. If for any reaosn you are experiencing difficulties with food please don’t hesitate to get in contact with the school as soon as possible.

2ND WEEK – CHROMEBOOKS / ACTIVITY PACKS / EXTRA DATA – If your child receives a free school meal please contact the school as soon as possible to collect your Chromebook. When you collect your Chromebook it is important that you agree to the conditions set out in the agreement when you sign for it. The government has advised schools that every child who is in receipt of a free school meal should be able to have access to an electronic device. When we receive the devices we will contact you as soon as possible.

Teachers will continue to prepare packs of activities for those of you who have restricted access to the internet. They can be collected from the school office at the beginning of every week.

We have been given a number of SIM cards which we would like to distribute to families to give you access to extra data on top of your current plan. We can also arrange for a 4G router to be installed if you are a customer on a particular network. Please contact Mrs Weinstein for further details if you think you may be entitled to a router or a SIM card at:

2ND WEEK – CLASS NUMBERS – Whilst we are doing everything we can to support all of our families we have to be very careful about how to stop the spread of the virus. As a result we will need to cap all year groups at 10 children. If you are a critical worker or considered vulnerble please contact the school as soon as possible because most year groups are already full. Thank you for your understanding regarding this very important issue.

WEEKLY ZOOM AND PHONE CALLS – Another way we want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to support you during these very challenging times is to hold a weekly class Zoom call. Teachers will send you a link which can be pinned to your address bars on your browsers to access the meeting every week. It is a lovely way for children and staff to communicate with each other over the weeks ahead. The calls will take place at the following times:

Nursery –Wednesday – 11am
Reception Wednesday – 1:30pm
Year 1 – Tuesday and Friday – 9:30am
Year 2 – Thursday – 1:30pm
Year 3 – Friday – 9:30am
Year 4 – Wednesday – 2:00pm
Year 5 – Thursday –10:30am
Year 6 – Friday – 2:00pm

Please make every effort to attend.

CONTACT – You should have all by now either been contacted by phone or email by a member of staff to make sure that you are safe and well and that your child has access to their online or remote learning. Mrs Reffold and Mrs Conway are sharing duties with support and teaching staff to make these calls. They are a vital way of ensuring we are carrying out our duty and repsonsibility to you. Where contact hasn’t been made, we will make a visit to check on families. Please make sure you are doing everything you can to make contact with the school as regularly as possible. It is very important.
