Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 15th February 2019

As we approach the half way point in the academic year there has been much to celebrate but there is still so much more to do! We continue to move at pace and the school is adapting well to the changes that will help to improve outcomes for everyone. We celebrated two wonderful talent shows over the past few weeks which were well attended by parents and carers. Everyone was overwhelmed by the children’s efforts and many of you have commented on how much you enjoyed the evenings. We were all very impressed by their confidence and attitude, thank you children. I would like to thank you all for your continued  support as we continue on our journey; have a lovely half term and we look forward to welcoming the children back to school on MONDAY 25th FEBRUARY.

The word of the week is – PARTIALITY – a particular liking or fondness for something. Is there something in your life that you have a partiality for?

PARENTS/CARERS EVENINGS – It was lovely to see so many of you on Wednesday and Thursday evening. The children continue to work hard and have made very pleasing progress over the past 6 months. If for any reason you were unable to attend your appointment please speak with your child’s class teacher who will be able to make an appointment to meet with you.

MISSION STATEMENT – After many weeks of consultation we are pleased to share with you the school’s new mission statement. It captures many of the themes that came through in the questionnaires and sets out our purpose which is central to everything we do as a school. Please spend a few moments reading through it. It will be shared with the children after half term. Thank you all for your input.

At Parkside Community Primary School, we are committed to providing our children with a school where they feel happy and safe. They are proud of their achievements and develop a lifelong love of learning. They will be part of a school community which nurtures them and cares for their needs.

We want our children to be independent, inquisitive and equipped with the tools they will need to take their place in an ever-changing world.

Professional, approachable and caring staff will always be ready to listen and support them. All children will be encouraged to excel to the best of their ability; helped by high-quality teaching.

Our school will be a place where parents, carers and members of the local community will always be welcomed and listened to.

At Parkside Community Primary School, we pursue excellence, celebrate success and respect everyone.

ATTENDANCE TROLLEY OF TOYS – It was lovely to award over 114 children with a gift today for having 100% attendance this half term. Congratulations children! Let’s try and improve this number next half term. It would be truly amazing if we could award every child a gift.

YEAR 1 VISIT THE MUSEUM OF CHILDHOOD + YEAR 3 VISIT DELL FARM – Two year groups took their learning off site this week as Year 1 visited Dell Farm to deepen their learning and appreciation of the Roman civilisation and the children form Year 1 paid a visit to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green. They had a wonderful time learning about the history of children’s toys in a museum dedicated to this particular topic. Both year groups were great ambassadors for the school and many members of the public commented on how well behaved they were. Thank you children.

TALENT SHOWS – Over the course of two very busy evening we were treated to a feat of acts which didn’t fail to deliver. From footballers to magicians, singers to gymnasts we were dazzled the array of talent that was on show. We raised £387 for the children and everyone left full of excitement and happiness. Thank you to everyone who took part or supported the two evenings. We will do it all over again this time next year!

DISCO + QUIZ – The postponed disco for all children will take place on THURSDAY 28th FEBRUARY. The DJ has been booked and tickets are on sale at the school office priced £2.50. Popcorn and juice will be available on the night for £0.50. Parents must take their child’s coat from them as they drop off and collect from the hall. Please make every effort to support the event.

Nursery Reception and KS1 –  3:30pm – 4:30pm

Key Stage 2 – 5.00pm – 6.30pm

QUIZ NIGHT – Do you have a head full of knowledge that needs to be tested? Do you know who were the first British team to win a European trophy? Or when Wispa bars were first launched? Why not pit your wits against other parents / carers, teachers and governors to win the inaugural quiz night  and trophy at Parkside on FRIDAY 15th MARCH. Tickets go on sale after half term and cost £3 each. Why not get together with friends and make a team? Refreshments will be available through the evening. Doors open at 6:00pm and the quiz starts at 6:30pm. It promises to be a lot of fun so why not come along and join the rest of our school community for a night of quizzing and hilarity!

DINNER MONEY – Thank you to those of you who always pay for your child’s school dinners on time. Please make sure that your account is up to date or in credit.

MULTIPLICATION TABLES FUN – The following link will help with your child’s recall of multiplication tables, an essential skill they will need as they move through the school. Have fun children!! https://www.mathsisfun.com/numbers/math-trainer-multiply.html
