Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 14th September

As we come to the end of the first full week of term the children have  settled well in to their new classes and routines. I have been very impressed with the focused attitudes they have displayed in class; it has been a good start to the year. I hope that you received the letter earlier in the week inviting you to meet your child’s class teacher next week. Please make every effort to attend. Further details can be found in the Latest News section of the website. We have also scheduled a series of parent workshops to take place this term. The focus for the workshops will be on enjoyment and understanding of how to use and apply different mathematical methods and concepts in a fun and practical way. The workshops will give you an opportunity to work with your child and to be guided by our experienced teachers. We urge you all to make every effort to attend these two very important events. Our excellent governing body met for their first set of meetings this week. They play a very valuable role in helping to support and challenge the school. If you are thinking about how you could support the school in a different capacity as a parent governor, please make an appointment to speak with me to discuss the role further.  I spoke to the children at Monday morning’s assembly about “pulling together” as a team. If we work together as a school the possibilities of what we can achieve are endless, but it requires maximum effort from everyone to achieve our goals.

Thank you all for your continued support.

BREAKFAST CLUB – It always a pleasure to see the children having fun at Breakfast Club every morning. Please do consider sending your child to this very important club; it is open from 8:00am every morning to support parents who would like the option of dropping their child to school early. Cost £2.50 per child. Thank you.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB – Next week a letter will be sent to all parents to canvass their opinion to see if the school could set up and run an after school club here at Parkside. It would run every day Monday to Friday from 3:15pm to 5:30pm and would be staffed by members of the school team. The children would be provided with sandwiches, fruit and snacks and would have the opportunity of socialising in a relaxed environment, complete their homework and develop new friendships. Places would be limited to 25 children and would be fairly priced. By providing wrap around care from 8:00am through to 5:30pm we are fulfilling our obligation to you as parents and helping to build the school community. Please look out for the letter.

PUNCTUALITY – There are a number of children who arrive at school after 9 o’clock. Not only does this disrupt their start to the day it has a great impact on their learning. Since the beginning of the new academic year 41 pupils have been late and arrived at school after 9 o’clock. This is very worrying. Letters will be sent to families who are experiencing difficulty arriving to school on time next week to meet with Mr Soyka. As a school, we want to do everything we can to help our families give the children the best possible start to the school day. Please make sure that your child arrives on time every day. Thank you.

DINNER MONEY – Parents of children in Years 3 to 6 please remember to pay for your child’s dinner using the School Gateway system. Thank you.

UNIFORM – The children continue to look smart in their uniform. Please make sure that your child wears shoes to school. Trainers should not be worn except when the children do PE outdoors.

MEET THE TEACHER – These important meetings will take place next week and will offer you an opportunity to ask questions about the year ahead and to familiarise yourself with the expectations for your child.

RECEPTION AREA – The scrub land area at the end of the Reception playground will be redeveloped by the end of the month. This exciting project will give the children more opportunities to access and enjoy the area which is currently underused. The contractors will ensure that the ground is levelled off before securing it with a waterproof membrane ready for the chip bark to be poured over it.  Once complete, the area will enhance the overall feel and look to the entrance of the school and give the children a wonderful area to learn and play in. Watch this space for further updates!

GOVERNORS – There is a vacancy on the governing body for a Parent Governor. If you are interested in helping to shape the strategic direction and future of the school, please make enquiries at the school office for further information. It is a very rewarding role and offers great insight in the way the school is run and the different systems and procedures is uses to ensure the best outcomes for the children. Do consider putting yourself forward.

MOBILE PHONES – SMILES NOT MOBILES! Please remember to finish you phone call before entering the school premises at the beginning and end of the day. As a school we want to set the right impression and uphold the highest standards. One way that we can all do this, is to meet and greet the children with a smile. Thanks you for your support with this very important issue.
