Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 14th June 2019

Another fantastic week slips by and we look forward to the remaining five weeks with excitement. You came in great number on Thursday and Friday morning to share breakfast with your child to celebrate Father’s Day. Judging by the smiles and laughter that filled the air everyone had a great time. It was great to see the community coming together on a rather dull summer morning to lift everyone’s spirits. Thank you. Sports day take place next week; Thursday morning from 9.30am for the children in Nursery and Reception and Friday morning for the children in Years 1 though to 6 at 9:30am onwards. We look forward to welcoming you. Below, you will find a list of dates for the rest of term. Please keep them safe. They are subject to change but we will try and give you as much notice as possible as and when things happen. Please continue to support the children and the school in all that we do.

The word of the week is — GRUBBLING— “It’s time to check whether you’ve got your keys and your phone and your purse or wallet.” This is done by grubbling in your pockets.

THE SUMMER FAIR – We are all looking forward to next week’s Summer Fair, it promises to be a wonderful event. The plans are almost complete and the weather looks set to be fine if a little cloudy. We are asking for volunteers to help set up on the morning of the event from 9.30am. If you are free and are able to lend a hand we can offer you bacon sandwiches and tea in exchange for a couple of hours of your time before the fair starts. All we ask is that you turn up on the morning. Any one who is interested in running a table top should speak to the Office about a pitch and Vicky our chef has asked that any donations for the international food stall be handed in on Friday 21st in the morning or on the day of the fair.

Children can wear their sports kit all day on FRIDAY of next week in exchange for a cake. They will be sold at the Summer Fair as part of the tea and cake stall which will be held in the school canteen.

There will be only one entrance through the gate on Allerton Road and the entry fee for adults is 50 pence, children are free. We are all looking forward very much to seeing as many of you there as possible. 12pm through to 3pm.

UNIFORM – This very important aspect of school life is so important when instilling the right values we want here at Parkside. Children should come to school in a clean uniform and the CORRECT shoes. Many children wear trainers to school, often brightly coloured. It is so disappointing to see children wearing the wrong foot wear to school when we are working incredibly hard to create an environment for the children to reach their full potential. It can be very challenging when we don’t pull together as a community to get things right. Please support the school with this key aspect of school life. If for any reason you are unable to provide your child with the necessary uniform please do come and speak to me. Thank you.

FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST – What an amazing turn out and what a great event. Thank you to all the dads, granddads, mums and male and female family members who turned up on Thursday and Friday morning to support this annual event. It is so important that we put on events of this nature to bring the school community together. We also hope that you enjoyed spending time in your child’s classroom working with them.

APPOINTMENTS – Appointment cards and letters must be shown to staff in the school office if you need to take your child out of school at any time on the grounds of health and safety. Please adhere to his very important rule. Thank you.

QUANTUM THEATRE VISIT PARKSIDE – The children enjoyed watching a fabulous rendition of the Wind in the Willows on Wednesday morning as part of their cultural capital. They learnt about the importance and value of public speak, dramatization, choral singing and recitation. It was a performance which was engaging and at times full of hilarity. Thank you for being such a wonderful audience.
