Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 14th January 2022 – Spring 2
THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECORDED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS REPORTED AT PARKSIDE COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL THIS WEEK
It has been a very cold week but the children haven’t let the weather affect their efforts. Everyone has settled back in to their routines and myself and Mrs Taylor have met with teachers this week to discuss the children’s progress. The gap experienced under lockdown is slowly being narrowed and the quality of the work we have seen has been very encouraging. After school tutoring has started well but please remember even on the days that the foodbank is open, to collect your child at 4:30pm from the gate on Aycliffe Road. It is important to be on time to collect your child because they would have had a long day and will want to go home. Please continue to support the school in all that we do.
The word of the week is – FLIZZOMS – small flakes or particles in liquid, including the floaty bits in a mug of tea after you’ve dunked too many biscuits.
POEM OF THE WEEK –
THIS WEEK’S EXAMPLES OF THE CHILDREN’S WORK –
SCHOOL UNIFORM – At the beginning of every term it is useful to remind families of their responsibility of sending children to school in the correct uniform. This includes PE kit. Please remember that all children should wear the correct school jumper with the school logo on it, a white polo shirt, grey or charcoal trousers for boys / girls and or a pinafore, warm socks and most importantly black school shoes. They should also wear non branded PE kit. I cannot stress highly enough the importance of wearing the correct school uniform, it instils pride and gives a sense of belonging. PAINTING THE KEY STAGE 2 FENCES – SAVE THE DATE – Are you a dab hand with a paint brush? Can you spare an hour on SATURDAY 26th FEBRUARY between 10am and 11am to lend a hand painting the fence panels at the back of the KS2 playground? Tea, coffee and bacon rolls will be on offer so all you need to do is turn up and be willing to lend a hand. We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to help give the playground environment a lift for the children.
WD6 FOOD SUPPORT – The WD6 Food support is open on WEDNESDAY & FRIDAYS from 3:45pm – 5:15pm. Parkside families can have access from 3:15pm directly after school.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND
SMILES NOT MOBILES – I have had to speak to a number of parents and carers this week about taking calls on their mobile phones at the end of the school day. This is a gentle reminder to remember to finish your call before entering the school grounds. As a school we believe that the end of the school day is one of the most precious and magical times for a child. They often want to share with their parent/carer what has happened in the school day but they can’t do this if you are on your phone. Thank you for your continued support over this very important matter.
EASY FUNDRAISING – The members of the Parents and Friends Association have set up an easy fundraising page which you can access every time you shop on line. Please click the link for further details about how you can raise money for the school. https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/pfaparkside/
ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY – There were 14 children from 10 families who came late to school last week on 21 occasions. Please make every effort to reduce this number next week it is so important.
MANY OF YOU BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL ON TIME EVERYDAY WHICH HELPS TO SET A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE. PART OF THE SCHOOL’S MISSION IS TO SUPPORT ALL OF OUR FAMILIES AS MUCH AS WE CAN BUT IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE WORKS TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF THE CHILDREN AND THE SCHOOL. IT IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY TO TEACH THE CHILDREN THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING PUNCTUAL.

FOOD WASTE – FOOD WASTE – This week there was 66 kgs of waste which equated to 77 grammes per child. THIS IS TOO MUCH. We will start to look in to ways of reducing our food waste with the catering staff in the next couple of weeks, so please look out for news about this important change.
