Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 13th September 2019 – Autumn 2

After our first full week back life is beginning to find its feet once again here at Parkside. I spoke to the children this morning about the importance of behaviour and self discipline. Effective schools and businesses are run on strong systems of agreed behaviours and self discpline; they are key skills we apply in our every day lives. The same is true in class. I asked the children to make this year the best that they have ever had here at Parkside and to be a proud member of this community. Let their books be a demonstration of what they can achieve, let their behaviour be rewarded and shared and let them be the best that they can be. This year is the year where we want to – “MAKE IT HAPPEN!”

Next week we invite you to meet your child’s classteacher. I sent a letter via text to you earlier today with further details about the meetings; please make every effort to attend and we look forward to welcoming you.

The word of the week – CLOMPH – To walk in shoes that are too large for your feet.

UNIFORM – The children look very smart in their uniform and are proud to members of our great school community. It is important that we have high expectations for the children and uniform is one very important way of doing this. All items of uniform should be labelled and clearly identifiable.  Please make sure that your child wears shoes to school. Trainers should not be worn except when the children do PE outdoors. Let’s keep standards high as we begin our new school year.

EXPECTATIONS – The children are set very high expectations through the course of the year which we want them to reach so that they make good rates of progress. You will find a lot of information on our website under the CURRICULUM in the KEY INFORMATION tab about the reasons why we have redesigned the curriculum and what we want the children to learn. As a school we want the very best for your child and we want to hear from you about this. Some ways you can help understand what your child is to ask them questions about their day. Try and ask them using these examples and see what sort of response you get:

Tell me about the best part of your day.
What was the hardest thing you had to do today?
Did any of your classmates do anything funny?
Tell me about what you read in class.
How do you know you are making progress?

We want to keep standards and expectations high, please continue to support the school by supporting your child in all that they do.

MOBILE PHONES – SMILES NOT MOBILES! Please remember to finish you phone call before entering the school premises at the beginning and end of the day. As a school we want to set the right impression and uphold the highest standards. One way that we can all do this, is to meet and greet the children with a smile. Thank you for your support with this very important issue.

PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE – It is great to see so many of you really trying hard to come to school on time and uphold the standards that we want for our school. Thank you children. This key life skill is so important, it really makes it happen! Whilst we understand how difficult the morning can be for families it is incredibly frustrating that it often the same children who arrive late to school once the register closes. Please try everything you can to help the school and set the standards we want to teach the children good habits.

There were 39 occasions where children were late to school this week. THIS FIGURE MUST GET LOWER next week.
