Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 11th October 2019 – Autumn 6

It seems as if autumn is well and truly here but the wet weather hasn’t dampened spirits. Year 6 have had a fantastic time on their residential trip to the PGL centre in Marchants Hill (follow the link to read more https://parkside.herts.sch.uk/class-6/), Year 2 spent Thursday morning deepening their learning and understanding of the local area by visiting Elstree and Borehamwood museum and returned to school with fistfuls of seven inch records! I was very jealous. Oliver Dowden our local MP paid a visit to school today and met members of the school council and Year 4 spent the day furthering their knowledge about life in the Stone Age on Thursday as part of their history topic. It was great way of developing their key enquiry skills. There was even a parent/carer maths workshop too on Tuesday in Year 5. And so the learning journey continues.

PLEASE NOTE SCHOOL IS CLOSED ON FRIDAY 18TH OCTOBER FOR STAFF TRAINING

The word of the week is: HUM DURGEON – An imaginary illness. Sounds more like an imaginary word. Have you ever suffered from hum durgeon?

STAYING HEALTH – My grandmother would often tell me that this time of year brought dangerous weather. What she meant by this statement was, that a drop in temperature would lower our immune system and our bodies were susceptible to all sort of attacks from viruses and colds. Please ensure that your child stays healthy, by eating well, taking plenty of rest and comes to school in full winter uniform which will keep them warm. Thank you.

THE WALKING BUS WILL RESUME NEXT WEEK UP BY STANBOROUGH AVENUE – PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ACCOMAPNY THE CHILDREN ON THEIR JOURNEY TO SCHOOL SO THAT THEY ARE ON TIME

LOCAL MP OLIVER DOWDEN VISIT – When the school council visited parliament last week they missed out on the opportunity of meeting their local MP Mr Oliver Dowden the Pay Master General. He spent time talking to Mr Soyka about the challenges facing schools and the education system before meeting with the school council who asked him some very challenging questions. He was very engaging and listened very attentively to the children. Thank you Mr Dowden for taking the time to visit our school. We learnt a lot about your role as a member of parliament for Hertsmere.
