Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 11th January
A belated happy new year to you all! I would like to thank you for your kind generosity that was shown to staff at the end of last term, it was very kind. The children have settled back in to their routines very well this week and the positive energy that was prevalent at the end of last term has returned once again. We want to harness this energy to create a new mission statement for our school. Mission statements are very important to schools, they let visitors and stakeholders know of their purpose and values, so I invite all of you to complete a short questionnaire. Your answers will help to formulate the wording of our new mission statement. All members of the school community have been asked to complete the questions including the children and once we have all of the results we will begin to formulate a draft of new mission statement.
The beginning of a new term is always a good time to remind parents and carers about the importance of wearing the correct school uniform. Please make sure that your child comes to school in the correct footwear; no trainers or boots should be worn to school. Please refer to the link to make sure that your child is dressed correctly for school.

The word of the week is – MISSION – something that you say when you have finished doing something that you were told to do/any work that someone believes it is their duty to do.
CATS PROTECTION ASSEMBLY – Children from Reception and Key Stage 1 enjoyed an assembly on Wednesday morning from representatives from the Cats Protection Society. They spoke to the children about the work they do to look after cats and how we should treat them as pets. The children were fully understanding of their vision by the end of the assembly – “Our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs.”
NEW LIBRARY – The new school library is now finished and ready to be opened. We are currently organising for a poet to come into school and be a part of the official opening in the next week or two before the children start to use the new resource which we hope they will enjoy.
FRIENDS OF PARKSIDE TALENT SHOW – On Friday 25th January the Friends of Parkside will host a talent show for the children in The Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 from 5pm through to 8pm.
The Talent Show for children in Key Stage 2 will take place on Friday 1st February from 5pm through to 8pm
Tickets will go on sale from Monday next week and are strictly limited to two per family due to Health and Safety restrictions. The school hall is only allowed to hold 160 people and under strict legislation we have to adhere to this number. Refreshments will be served during the interval and we look forward to seeing the children and staff perform. Auditions take place from Monday 14th January. GOOD LUCK CHILDREN !
READING AND SPELLING WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS / CARERS – Our next round of workshops will take place through the Spring term and will focus on the different strategies and techniques we use to help develop and support children’s Reading and Spelling.
