Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 11th February – Spring 6

THERE HAVE BEEN 4 REPORTED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS RECORDED AT PARKSIDE COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL THIS WEEK

It has been Children’s Mental Health week at school this week. Teachers planned a series of lessons that explored the importance of nurturing and looking after mental health. The children took part in a series of workshops which helped to develop their confidence and explored how emotions affect responses to situations. It was lovely to hear the hall full of chat and laughter. I have spent a lot of time in the dinner hall this week monitoring the children’s eating habits. You will see from the amount of waste that was produced it was considerably less than in previous weeks. Please encourage your child to eat well and to respect the efforts everyone goes to in making lunchtimes a pleasurable experience for them. Have a wonderful half term and we look forward to welcoming you all back for the second half of the spring term on MONDAY 21st FEBRUARY.

The word of the week is –  INQUINATION – the act of polluting, defiling or corrupting.

Well done to this week’s Parkside Flyers – Zala, Habibulla, Lutfi, Shannon, Jaliyah, Harry, Holly and Soham.  Your determination, excellent attitude and hard work have helped you to take flight this week. Keep this going please all year. WE HOPE THAT YOU LIKE OUR NEW WINGS DISPLAY.

My apologies to Helana in Year 3 for misspelling her name in last week’s newsletter

FOOD WASTE  – This week there was 55.2 kgs of waste which equated to 71.1 grammes per child. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A LOT LESS THAN LAST WEEK THIS IS STILL TOO MUCH. We have given great thought to setting a new menu which should help to reduce the school’s waste over the coming weeks. We have also taken stock of two new compost bins which will not only encourage the children to develop their gardening skills but will also reduce the amount of waste.
