Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 10th December – Autumn 14

THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECORDED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS REPORTED AT PARKSIDE COMMUNITY SCHOOL THIS WEEK

Christmas has well and truly arrived. The Key Stage 1 Christmas performances took place this week and the children gave two wonderful performances. Thank you to everyone who attended and observed the guidelines we have in place at the school that keep everyone safe. Our Christmas events continue next week with the Nursery, Reception and Year 3/4 performances. Further details below. Thank you to those who donated a cake in support of this afternoon’s cake sale. It was lovely to see many of you enjoying a warm drink and a cake on a cold afternoon. All proceeds will be banked by the PFA to buy resources for the children. With the rise of Omicron cases across the country and the introduction of Plan B by the government we must remain vigilant in our fight against the spread of the disease. During the cold winter months please make sure that your child wears a school jumper and a warm coat. All items of uniform must be clearly labelled. Thank you.

The word of the week is – CIRCUMBENDIUS – an answer or argument so convoluted and evasive that it really isn’t really an answer.

DRUMMING WORKSHOP – The children of Key Stage 2 took part in a series of drumming and percussion workshops led by Jack Morris of Logan Bros Music on Tuesday. The children learnt about the importance of keeping time, playing as a collective and how rhythm affects the structure of a piece of music. They were challenged in their learning and learnt a great deal from the lessons. Thanks Jack for leading such a great set of lessons.

ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY –  There were 22 children from 15 families who came late to school last week on 43 occasions. Please make every effort to reduce this number next week, it is so important.

A large number of children who turn up late to school do so every week on a regular basis and are from the same families. If you need help with organising your time in the mornings we are here to help. Please speak to Mrs Mattholie for further advice and support.

FOOD WASTE – FOOD WASTE – This week there was 71.8 kgs of waste which equated to 104  grammes per child. THIS IS TOO MUCH. After Christmas we will look at the school’s menu to review the dishes that are served to the children and identify which ones create the most waste. Once we have done this (in conjunction with the kitchen staff) we should to see a reduction in food that is thrown away.

HOT CHOCOLATE AND PARKSIDE FLYERS – Congratulations to Flori, Ellie, Patrick, Paul, Johnny, Vinnie, Denilson, Lara and Summer who joined Mr Soyka for a cup of hot chocolate on Friday afternoon in recognition of their hard work and the excellent efforts they had demonstrated through the week.

Well done to this week’s Parkside Flyers – Leah, Damien, Ellie, Zakaria, Oscar, Donia, Elisa, K’Asia and Lillie. Your determination, excellent attitude and hard work have helped you to take flight this week. Keep this going please all year.
