Year 4 – Home Learning

Good morning Year 4,

I hope you have all had a restful half term and are ready to get back into learning!

This is just a reminder that all home learning is now being set on Google Classroom. To reach this please just follow this link – http://classroom.google.com

You will need your child’s login details to get into our classroom. If you do not have this then please email myself or Mrs Quinn and we will be happy to forward these to you.

Once you have logged in you will see that all the lessons your child needs to complete will be available. They can be handed directly to me without the need for emails.

Purple Mash will still be used for a variety of different things but your child will be directed to this when they need to be.

Looking forward to seeing you on Google Classroom!

Any questions that you come across you could write down some answers or discuss them with someone at home. Make sure that you continue to read over the Knowledge Organiser every lesson.

Task One: A collage is a piece of art which is made from different materials, often paper or fabric, being stuck on a backing sheet.

You will use your drawings of the Minotaur (you have drawn two; use the one that you like the best), your mazes (done in lesson two) and some string to create a collage showing part of the story of Theseus and the Minotaur.

This is an example piece of work:

You will need to decide the following things:

  1. What colour paper to use for your backing sheet.
  2. How they you present your maze. Will you cut it up? Into how many pieces?
  3. Where will they put your Minotaur? In the middle/at the side?
  4. How will you arrange the string/wool? (This is to symbolise the string Theseus uses to find his way out of the maze.)

You will need to arrange the pieces of your picture first before you stick them down to ensure you are happy with their finished design. If you collected a home learning pack from school, you will notice that there is some coloured card and spring in there to help you complete your collage!

I cannot wait to see what you come up with so please, please, please send me a picture of your amazing art!!

I hope you have a wonderful half term! You have all worked so incredibly hard and I am so very proud!

Task Two: You are going to sketch the Minotaur in 2 different ways.

You are going to use Picasso’s paintings below to help you sketch your TWO Minotaur’s.

Remember, sketching is only with pencil so you should use no colour. Also, send through your amazing sketches to me as I would love to see them!

Think about the following things:

  • Shape and position of the eyes
  • Shape and position of the mouth
  • Shape and position of the body

I hope you have a wonderful day and are keeping safe.

Maths:

Yesterday’s lesson was about parallel lines and perpendicular lines. If you need a bit of a recap, you could watch the video again from yesterday to refresh your memory.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-revise-parallel-and-perpendicular-lines-65hker – open in Google Chrome.

For today’s task, I would like you to design your own flag to set criteria.

Write the numbers 1 to 10 individually on small bits of paper and scrunch them up.

Select two pieces of paper.

The first number indicates the number of parallel lines and the second number indicates the number of pairs of perpendicular lines the flag must have.

Your flags can be drawn digitally or on paper that you have at home.

You can also use colour to decorate your flag. Make sure that when you send your finished flags to me you tell me how many parallel and perpendicular lines your flag should have.

You could use this link below as a starting point:

Art:

This is the second lesson of our Art Unit: Mythological Paintings.

Go through the PDF that is attached below (this is the SMART that we would have gone through in class):

Art Lesson 2

KO

I have also made a video that you could watch. I go through the SMART carefully and give you any instructions you need to complete the lesson. This is linked below:

Any questions that you come across you could write down some answers or discuss them with someone at home. Make sure that you continue to read over the Knowledge Organiser every lesson.

Task One: You will make a picture over the next few weeks representing part of the Minotaur story.

Today you will make your background which will be the maze.

The minotaur is often referred to as living in a labyrinth but that we will draw a maze as it is easier to construct. (A maze is has many paths but a labyrinth has only a single, non-branching path, which leads to the centre.)

We are going to go to work through the following link which will show and help us draw a maze:

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Draw-a-Maze/

You will need A4 paper, a pencil, a ruler (you will need to rule straight lines and create different branches off your maze) and (if you can) a black felt tip pen (to go over your pencil lines at the end).

I hope you have a wonderful day and are keeping safe.
