Watford Joy of Moving

September 18, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Year 3 enjoyed Joy of Moving with Watford Wednesday Morning. Each child has received a Move and Learn Challenge Booklet which looks at Physical Activity, Body and Mind, and Keeping Healthy.

Children also joined in with a football session where they learnt different games. We look forward to the upcoming weeks with Watford FC CSE Trust.

The Joy of Moving Programme, delivered in partnership with Ferrero UK and the Trust, engages thousands of children across the country every year. According to research, only 30% of boys and 25% of girls aged 5-7 meet the recommended quota of exercise each day. Such inactivity levels are leading to a variety of issues affecting both physical and mental health.

The Joy of Moving programme is designed to help children develop their physical, cognitive and social skills in a fun and educational way. This is done through two national projects, the Move & Learn programme and the Joy of Moving Festivals that engage 70,000 children nationwide each year.

The Move and Learn Programme is a national school-based educational programme for children aged between 9-10 that has been developed by the EFL Trust and Ferrero UK. By combining six weeks of practical sporting sessions with classroom sessions, the programme encourages physical activity, promotes nutritional education and builds awareness of the importance of a balanced diet and active lifestyle.

About the Sessions

The programme provides an interactive and fun way of learning through both theoretical and practical sessions, includes all children and aims to start positively influencing lives.

A minimum of two classes take part, with one starting in the classroom completing different activities around health and nutrition, whilst the other takes part in a practical session. After 45 minutes, the classes swap over.

The practical sessions consist of two weeks of football, two weeks of handball and two weeks of dodgeball. The indoor sessions, where the pupils use individual challenge booklets to bring the lessons to life, consist of education around exercise, nutrition, the body and hydration.

The sessions aim to improve children’s knowledge around other lifestyle factors, which can then be taken home and help improve relatives’ lives.
