THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECORDED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS REPORTED AT PARKSIDE SCHOOL THIS WEEK
Welcome back to the start of a new term and a very belated happy new year to you all. Now that we have entered in to another lockdown it is more important than ever we work together for the best of every child and family at Parkside. There are a number of ways we can support you all over the next 6 weeks so please make sure that if you are entitled to some of the initiatives you contact the school as soon as possible. Work has been set online for all classes and weekly Zoom calls have been set up by all teachers. It is crucial that we remain in contact with you throughout the rest of the half term all to ensure that we are doing everything we can to help you all and to make sure that the children are safe and well.
The word of the week is – NIPPERKIN – A small gulp or draught of a drink, said to be roughly equal to one-eighth of a pint. (SW England)
CHROMEBOOKS / ACTIVITY PACKS / EXTRA DATA – If your child receives a free school meal please contact the school as soon as possible to collect your Chromebook. When you collect your Chromebook it is important that you agree to the conditions set out in the agreement when you sign for it. The government has advised schools that every child who is in receipt of a free school meal should be able to have access to an electronic device. When we receive the devices we will contact you as soon as possible.
Teachers will continue to prepare packs of activities for those of you who have restricted access to the internet. They can be collected from the school office at the beginning of every week.
We have been given a number of SIM cards which we would like to distribute to families to give you access to extra data on top of your current plan. We can also arrange for a 4G router to be installed if you are a customer on a particular network. Please contact Mrs Weinstein for further details if you think you may be entitled to a router or a SIM card at:
TEACHERS WILL CONTINUE TO UPDATE WORK FOR CHILDREN ON CLASS PAGES AND UNDER THE LATEST NEWS TAB ON THE SCHOOL WEBSITE
WEEKLY ZOOM AND PHONE CALLS – Another way we want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to support you during these very challenging times is to hold a weekly class Zoom call. Teachers will send you a link which can be pinned to your address bars on your browsers to access the meeting every week. It is a lovely way for children and staff to communicate with each other over the weeks ahead. The calls will take place at the following times:
Nursery –Wednesday – 11am
Reception Wednesday – 1:30pm
Year 1 – Tuesday and Friday – 9:30am
Year 2 – Thursday – 1:30pm
Year 3 – Friday –9:30am
Year 4 – TBC
Year 5 – Thursday –10:30am
Year 6 – Friday – 2:00pm
Please make every effort to attend.
NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT – The new playground gym equipment was installed earlier this week and we can’t wait for the children to start using it. Thanks to Mr Wanless for making all of the arrangements including the installation and a special thank you to Mr Honour for making sure everything was safe before the children started to use the equipment.
MEAL BOXES / BAGS – We will continue to provide families who receive a Free School Meal with food from Morrisons for the timebeing. It is important that you are at home when deliveries are made otherwise you will need to make your collection from school. We have also teamed up with a local organisation who are providing school with a selection of free plant based produce for some of our families. We look forward to developing a long term relationship with Synergy.
CLASS NUMBERS – Whilst we are doing everything we can to support all of our families we have to BEvery careful about how to stop the spread of the virus. As a result we will need to cap all year groups at 10 children. If you are a critical worker or considered vulnerble please contact the school as soon as possible.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MR HONOUR WHO BECAME A GRANDFATHER OVER THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY. HE IS VERY PROUD OF HIS NEW GRANDSON AND WE WISH HIM AND HIS FAMILY EVERY HAPPINESS.
HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND AND STAY SAFE!
