29.4.20 Year 6

Good Morning Year 6,

P.E – As usual we would like you to start the day with some physical activity, so remember to tune in to Joe Wicks at 9am on his YouTube channel for his daily workout or if you go for a walk today, take some pictures of you and your family.

Maths – This week we are looking at week 2 on White Rose which focuses on angles in shapes such as quadrilaterals before ending the week with some problem solving.  Remember to watch the clip first for help before having a go at the worksheet, if you get stuck or need support, you can always email across to myself or Miss Wood for some extra guidance.  Today is lesson 3 – Problem Solving, you do not have to use the bar method as you chosen strategy. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/

Literacy including spelling work – Using the new Government initiative home schooling page developed by teachers – I thought we would follow week 1 which was set last week.

Focus = Newspaper: Identifying features from a text

In this lesson, you are going to identify features of a newspaper report.

Reading: Chapter 3 of  The Snatch – https://www.purplemash.com/#tab/pm-home/serialmash/serialmash_saphires/thesnatch_live

  1. Online multiple choice
  2. Dazed and Confused task: When Majid came round after being attacked, he was a bit confused and disorientated. Imagine that you have just woken up after being attacked. Write about any pain or injuries you notice as you are coming round and describe your immediate surroundings.

PSHE: On BBC Bitesize they have a useful transition to secondary  focus which I thought we would take a look at today. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zj2grj6

In this session you will start to learn about the transition from primary to secondary school

The lesson includes:

  • two videos about the differences pupils will encounter in a new larger school

  • a practice activity to help your child think about the change of schools

Can you think about some of the tips you have learnt from watching the video clips.

Make a checklist of things they think they would need for a school day.

Think about and plan the things you might need to get ahead of starting at a new school this could include stationery, a planner, a calculator etc.

Write a reflection of any worries or things you are looking forward to when you start Year 7.

You can present this to me in any form:  Could be a poster, a leaflet, a PowerPoint presentation or just notes on paper.

Don’t forget to email us your work so we can see what you have been up to. Have a great day!
